    Calling all Bmw hourly employees!!!

I think i may have a chance to work at the bmw dealership here in town. I want to get an idea of some hour figures I can throw at them if they offer me a job. I wasn't looking for a job w Bmw, but I have a good friendship w the parts manager and he mentioned something may be opening and he had me in mind. He's asked me to work for them before (last year)but my current job (Infiniti/Porsche parts) has treated me well and the people are really cool here. I only make 9.00 an hour so i would def ask for atleast 10.00 maybe 11.00 to start off. What do you people think of that? How much an hr did you make starting at bmw and where are you located.

Cliffs: been offered a job at bmw again (declind 1st offer a year ago)
what pay should I ask for starting off??

Youre getting raped if you would work here in CA. BMW Parts guys around here start at $3500 a month. After a few months if you know what youre doing, you make around $5000 a month with commission figured in. But I dont know what the market is like in OK, and we have tons of rich people here in SLO. So we get paid better than a lot of places Im sure.

    Not sure if that helps.

Yea I don't think the parts dept here works on commision..unless they are going out and trying to upsell stuff to customers, but not for like walk-ins, or bodyshops, etc. Yes there is a huge difference between oklahoma and cali. just to give you an idea. My apt here would probably go for 800-1000.00 out in cali just b/c of its location..where here its only 300.00 and less than 2 miles from downtown okc. If I lived in cali I'd have to make atleast 15-18 an hour to make it...25.00+ if i wanna roll how i roll now

Craziness. I pay $1400 a month for my house, renting. And at Napa, I made $14 an hour, plus a monthly commission based on net profit. That was before I moved over to BMW.

SO I guess we're apples and oranges.

Holy shit, $300 a month for an apartment? My first year out of high school I rented an apartment in Seattle and it was $2500 a month for a 3br. Plus $100 a month per person for a parking spot.

yes thats nice about oklahoma...cost of living is pretty cheap. a downside if i wanna go to a "Big city"..dallas is bout 2.5hrs away. Try telling an Okie they have to pay rent on a parking spot that isn't covered or in an underground parking lot and you might get ya shoes spat on

i used to do parts at several dealers.
                here's what you do:
base pay + comission (maybe say $800 +2-3% of the gross profit)
if they are not assbags the gross profit goes into a comission "pool". then everyones comission is payed out in percentages usually based on how long they have been there, how well they sell, etc.
back counter is the money maker if you get a choice and there is a seperation between the 2. the techs have to come to you or the other people working the back/tech counter so you have constant sales.
do this and also take outside sales via phone to indepentant shops and bodyshops.

follow this and you will take home some nice checks!

He can't "follow that" if the dealership doesnt pay comission.

IF the dealership doesnt pay commission, and if the dealership doesnt seperate the two. Where I work we have two guys, and shit is split up based on whos available. The guy whos been there longer gets more commission than I do. But we both help the same people. Which in turn doesnt matter, since we split the comission from the net profit as a whole.

All I can tell you spunky, is ask what you feel your worth. Its easier to do that, than to wait a few months and ask for a raise. Also, make sure it seems like a place you really want to work, since you seem happy where youre at now. I wouldnt leave for a $1 raise, unless the environment was that much better... or if it meant working on BMW parts, which is what I wanted to do.

Never let them make you set your own pay, they're just setting you up for failure there. Say, "what do you normally pay someone with my level of expertise?" That way you don't end up undercutting yourself, and you don't end up upsetting them by asking too much. Make THEM give YOU a number, and negotiate from there.

benefits are a BIG deal anymore! see if they match the 401k, check out who they use for their health insurance. it all will make a difference in the end.

talk to the techs. since they generate your work, see how busy they are. is it constant? when are their slow times, do they last for more than a pay period? how busy is their wholesale and their walk-ins?

ask to see their sales records for the last year and currently, when i went to Chapman dodge. the service GM who i had to do my second interview with he showed me a piece of paper that he told me was their current sales to try to entice me and show me what i could and would be making as my bonus/commission. when i received my first check and went WTF, i went to him and he told me the figures he showed me were PROJECTED SALES FIGURES not the actual figures. by then it was too late i was stuck and had to make the best of it.

when he brought in a new manager,( after a year and a half, and after we straightened out the parts department, and had it turning a profit every month) that fired everyone and brought in his own people, i waited a couple of months, went in on a saturday morning when i knew his office would be open....AND TOOK A BIG STINKY, DRINKING THE NIGHT BEFORE AND FINISHED OFF THE NIGHT WITH MEXICAN FOOD......SHIT on his chair!

1 month after that i had 2 TONS of sand delivered at the end of his driveway behind his cars @ 6 am. revenge is sweet!!!
