Stupid cheap flights - how?

I've been doing a lot of flying back and forth from nor-cal to so-cal recently. And NOT on the company dime as it were.

I want to hear about how you hooked up a cheap flight. Tell you success story here - AND advice for others...

just book in advance and use expedia. I have found that they are far and away the cheapest.

i agree with expedia, but sometimes if you book to early its more expensive

well when i was in europe they have dirty cheap flights, with RYAN AIR. if you ever go over seas i suggest using them when flying in europe..... i flew from the very south of spain to brussells belgium and the flight was 1 euro and 20 euro airport tax.... sure beats the 28 hour train ride... it blew my mind how cheap there flights are.

Fly between small airports that get government subsidies for each flight. I know there's a route in the Midwest that averages 2 passengers a day and is under $50 each way. There has to be one in Cali haha

Sign up on sights that offer the low fair emails...

Then you put where you want to go and it contacts you. And buying way in advance is not the best way everytime...

There is a sight somewhere that has a few select cities you can fly in/out of for DIRT cheap. I can't for the life of me remember what it is though. I'll see if I can find it.

my pops works for united so we fly standby and it is dirt cheap, like $20 from nor cal to so cal =D and even first class if any seats are open

Sorry to resurect an old thread but...

anyone have any other ideas? I normally use hotwire, they have been giving me the cheapest. Why aren't the tickets cheaper directly through the AIRLINES? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Those sites buy up seats that didn't sell in time and rooms that are not filled by the hotels themselves. If they don't sell the hotwire lost out and lost money but they normally will sell when 1/2 off :)

I have found the train is good and cheap if you have the time to sit on it. Cost me 178 bucks to go from NW MT to central lower MI. and both stations are 15 mins from my house in both states. cant beat that for door to door service more or less.
