I dropped my '95 325is off last Wednesday to have the hood painted and replaced while I was skiing in West Virginia. I mentioned to the owner of the bodyshop, whom I had dealt with before through Precision Motorcars, where I used to work, that the coupe and sedan had different hoods. He seemed to think I was an idiot for mentioning this.
Well, he went on vacation while my car was to be worked on. I received no call before the weekend, though the car should have been completed friday afternoon.
I got back to GA Sunday, so I dropped by with the assistance of my dad to see if they had finished it and left the key or something. No such luck, it was behind the gate and still had the old hood.
Monday I had to borrow a car and went to school. I got a voicemail while in class to call them back. I did this about noon. They said they painted the hood they received, but when they went to fit it there was an issue. Guess what? It was the sedan hood. I also asked why they did not make sure the hood fit properly before they painted it? no reply. I asked them to be sure to check the next one, as aftermarket parts are not perfect. They know they are supposed to do this, but don't.
Tuesday I drop by and pay for it, and tell them to leave the key in it as soon as they are done. Wednesday noonish I call and the owner is short with me that the car is not yet ready that he would call when it was done. I got a ride to the body shop and my car was sitting in front, done. no call.
They said nothing much when I came in, but they wanted me to sign the release. they were mad that i wanted to look at the car first.
I look.
I am a little perturbed.
Fish eyes, trash, sand scratches and swirls. They did not even clean under the hood where all the dust goes after wet sanding.
the kicker is the tops of the fenders. near the hinges there are gashes in the paint. it is obvious the damage was done while the hood was being fitted.
I walk in and the owner wants his goon to deal with me so he does not have to. I tell him there are two gashes on the fenders. the goon has a preprogrammed response that they were already there. they were not. I said, no they were not there. the owner storms out to look. I also asked how they get so much dirty in the paint? He storms away saying he can use some touchup, but that is all he would do. He then points out other blemishes on the car, sarcastically asking if he should fix those too. then I ask him why he had to be this way. up to this point I was merely pointing the issue out. He walked away and before he slammed the door said, "because I am a dick" and was gone.
i walked in got my keys and left.
Now, I have worked in a bodyshop. The owner of the shop at which I worked respected me for my attention to detail and the fact that I would let nothing leave with blemishes and what not. I know what is what and what causes what and how to do any of the work. From fixing metal damage to wet sanding and buffing... it is not rocket science.
At this point I disputed the charge through Wachovia. I am writting to the BBB and a local newspaper, Around Canton.
What kind of business owner does that to a customer? I think he is a piece of shit.
What do you think?
