    New ebay fees...Opinions?

Ebay introduced new proposed fee schedule:
Understand the fees for doing business on eBay. We keep it simple and give you the tools to make it even simpler.

They lowered the insertion fees by 5 cents (big deal!), yet increase the final fee by 2-3.5% in the most cases.

Combine that with paypal fees that are above 3% unless you sell tons of expesnsive stuff per month and the final result is this IMO:

I feel that it probably is easier to throw that $10 part that has been sitting on my bench for the last three years in hopes to sell it for a buck rather than
spend time taking photos, looking up part numbers, listing that damn thing, packaging it, shipping etc, you get the idea...

    What do you guys think?

And what's with 12 month feedback cut off? I got feedback starting from 2003...

gay... that is some lame shit... Look how much stuff is on there. Do they really need a higher percent.

        My favorite is

They take a percent of the up to 25 dollars. Then take another percent up to 1,000 then another percent over the 1000.01. WTF?

Yeah, like the 1000 listing cost them so much more server space then a .99 listing. Ebay should be free of charge. Photobucket, youtube, etc.. are free, they are merely a server holding files, with no actual product. The product is from the customer.

It doesn't but it "should" cost you more to get that larger money item moved ;)

They do need to charge something. You get A LOT of exposure and free advertisement via eBay. But raising fees and getting "free" gallery is really bullshit.

However why not just take a percent off the 1200 dollar sale? Why do you take 3 different percents?

              Fuck it.
I buy all my car stuff from either you guys, mye28, bavauto, or the dealer. Whichever has the best deal. I'm tired of ebay's crap.

I've actually been very satisfied with craigslist. After seeing all these final value fees (I wasn't happy to begin with when they first did that, much less now) I gave CL a try and got to sell the few things I wanted.

I can imagine others starting to do the same.

I run an Ebay business. I would be where I am without Ebay. Even if they charge 5% it is still worth it to reach millions of customers.

ebay has awesome sellers tools, statistics and monitors for your items. I never get that with Craig.

Craigslist is free. Free > expensive.

I've been on there since '98 so I did a little digging and what I think is your overall feedback score is kept, but according to this, only the last 12 months are used to figure out your percentage:

"Feedback more than 12-months old won't count towards your Feedback percentage. "

I think it's there to encourage people to keep their account and change their dealings with people rather then dump an account and start a new one when the score gets low.

As for Buyer feedback, I see good and bad things. Many sellers will leave an automatic bad score if you leave them a bad one...even though as a buyer you did everything right (pay on time, good communication etc). Sellers still can leave bad feedback for non paying buyers.

If that's true I'll be thrilled. I had a douche bag leave me a negative rating way back in '99 that's still factored into my otherwise flawless rating. It's always chapped my ass, especially since his account is long gone now.

They will actually be charging almost 9% for auction style and 12% for the store if you follow the link above.

I agree with you that it gets a lot of exposure, but the point I'm trying to make is that while they are tayloring it for people that actually use it to make a living, by increasing thier fees like that they are first of all alienating occasional sellers who wouldn't want to bother with it for a couple fo bucks and, secondly, those who sell more often will end up with less profit.
Which in turn will just as well end up in "shipping and handling" fees, which then in turn is more money for ebay and paypal.

It's like cell phone companies charging you a fee because they have to pay a fee to feds or shit like that.

The bottom line is that everyone has to make a buck.

The problem that I've encountered with CL is that there's a lot of garbage and the search doesn't work as well.
