    List of sex-offenders

I was just calculating a rate for a client who supplied me with a Zip code. I Googled the digits and that told me the customer was in Texas. Then, the second or third result of my Googling was a link to a list of sex-offenders as well as their "indictment". Sollicitation, rape, possession of child pornography, etc.

So, as much as I am totally against any form of sexual offense, it let me wondering if posting their name, address and offense is really a benefit to the population, and not some form of public lynching. If the offenders are that dangerous in the public, then why are they released, and not still in an institution in the process of a rehabilitation or cure of any form? Isn't a convicted rapist left free, a time bomb in the society? Or is the juridiciary system only interested in the punishment (jail sentence) and not the rehabilitation? Which also raises the question of if people recognized guilty are in prison as a punishement, or are locked way not to harm society? Is anything done so that they don't becone repeat offenders?

These people molested children... the last thing that we need to worry about is how they "feel" regarding their public chastisement. These people deserve everything society has to throw at them, and if this is largest of their concerns then they are getting off way, way too lightly.

I do not know why they are released other than the system is over crowded and this probably leads to their release, while more serious offenders (any offense in general) are kept in.

Here is an interesting site for those who do not know of it. http://www.familywatchdog.us/

It allows you to enter your address and it will pull up a map with the sexual offenders in your area. All with details of each offender.

it is part of the rehabilitation process. They are out in the real world to learn to control their compulsions in real-world situations. As far as the "form of public lynching" yes. yes it is in a way. but it's a safety precaution to inform others in the community of who lives there and what he/she has done. If your kid goes missing, go knock on their door.

EDIT: holy crap, there are a lot of sex offenders in DC

No, it is commonly understood that a real rapist will always be a rapist. A person who makes an effort to molest a child will not be rehabilitated. Never. I work for CPS and I hear about these things all of the time. Even a brother who molests his sister must be removed completely. I've seen many circumstances where the child is left in the house and repeats the behavior.

In 80 to 95% of sex crimes, the offender is some one the victim knows. I tend to assume the higher number just because it has been shown that people are less likely to report crimes when they know the offender. America seems to believe that their children are going to get raped/murdered/molested by random men with mustaches driving around in a van, but this isn't the case.

You would be much better off keeping an eye on Uncle Billy around the kids than keeping an eye out for sex offenders in the tri-county area, or checking the backgrounds of the people you leave alone with your kids.

I had a friend a long time ago who was molested by their second uncle after soccer practice when they were very young. The crime was never reported to the police. Years later, that man went to prison for molesting his own daughter. May he rot in hell. Point is, if you don't want your kids molested watch who you let babysit/watch them more than random strangers 5 miles away.

For rapists of all kinds, one way for offenders to get "over it", in Canada, is a proposed project that involves chemical castration. Some convicted offenders will request to have a periodical dose of a chemical product that annihilates that sexual drive they cannot control. Should it be made mandatory to every rapist, or is it against any constitutional right?

Ok, I know this isn;t the popular response, but I think this is bullshit. "Its for the children", yada, yada, yada . . .

Only about 2-3% of child sex offense victims are victimized by people outside their household/family. So, these resgistration and public warning laws are nothing but a politcal ruse. It gets some politician good pub for being "for the children" and no one wants to oppose it because, frankly, who wants to be seen as the advocate for sex offenders?

I know they are not society's favorites, but after they serve their time, where are they supposed to go to live? to work?

The registration laws are so difficult, they are really set up for these people to fail so they can, in essence, punish them a second time.

                    Hello, "Double Jeopardy?"

Anyway, that is just my $.02, from someone who sees this from a close range - in the courthouse.

Not to mention the fact that they create yet another taxpayer burden in that the sheriff has to have a whole separate unit for the registrations, etc.

I say lock em up and throw away the key.

There's none in my neighborhood - which is pleasing.

Hardly Double Jeopardy IMO. Most people realize that they'll have to register as a sex offender if they commit the crime. This should serve as further incentive to not commit one in the first place. Who gives a flying fuck if you're raping your own kids, or blunt's kids for that matter.

I say BIG FUCKING DEAL. Your name will be on a website 99% of the population doesn't check anyways. You'll be the laughing stock of a small population of kids which you would gladly cornhole on any given tuesday.

                        I'm all for it.

See, that is where you people get sucked in. These are not just kiddie sex pervs. Most states include all kinds of things like peeing in public as offenses which get you "on the list".

These things do nothing to prevent recidivism.

When you hear the word "Sex offender" you think of some pedophile, lurking in the park, or driving around a van, telling kids he has candy.

But in reality, there are tons of people who did things that make them "sex offenders" under current laws.

The guy who is drunk and gets caught peeing in public, the store owner who sells a Playboy to a 17 year old, or even a girl who flashes her t*ts at a Mardi Gras party.

I think that's a good and interesting project. I remember reading in the paper about a year ago, about a serial rapist who was in prison was so happy after castrating himself, because he had no sexual drive. He asked for a safety razor to shave, broke one of the blades out, put an apple in his mouth, cut, and flushed his nuts down the toilet. I don't doubt that will stop the urge that rapists get, but isn't there a violent controlling urge that goes along with the sexual urge?
