I'm yet to see a listing of someone not deserving. Let's see it.
List of sex-offenders

Alright, in the last 5 minutes I pulled up my address and there are 5 dudes within walking distance convicted of sex with a minor, including 1 guy with 288 counts!
Dave, I respect where you're coming from. However, anyone who has kids needs to have unrestricted access to this stuff. I agree that some chick showing her wares may not fall into the same category as the above pieces of shite, but you know the saying. If you do the crime...
Thanks for posting that link, Atomic. I linked it to my wife, who will no doubt populate every Mommie's group in our area with the information. Knowledge is power. :D
Tim
PS Dave, I'll PM you my address if you want to see it for yourself. I have a 17 month old I'm already ridiculously overprotective about, and if I have to weed out a bit of "oral copulation" data to get to the real offenders, I have no problem with that.

I have kids. Three of them.
And If you aren't keeping close enough tabs on them to allow something to happen, then IMHO, shame on you.
The reality is, you can have a convicted drug trafficker, a convicted robber, hell even a murderer move in, and no one gets notified. There is no list, there are no mailings going out from the Sheriff, no fliers. And those people are probably a risk to you and your family whereas 99.99% of these people are not -- that is unless you are friends or related to them and let them in your home.
Keep feeding your paranoia. That is all this info is good for.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

I'm not sure if that's directed at me, but I'll assume it was. BTW, it's not hard to keep tabs on a 17 month old.I have kids. Three of them.

I don't consider it paranoia at all to know that there's a guy who lives 3 blocks away who was convicted of 288 counts of pedophilia. If you think I'm better off not knowing that information, you and I must have very different stances on how to protect our families.

Tim,
Not necessarily directed at you. 288 counts of pedophilia - why the hell is he out in the first place?
You show me the state law that clearly limits its registration and reporting to only the kiddie sex creeps and the violent rapists, then you might be able to convince me there is a legitimate purpose.
But the new "Adam Walsh" legistlation going into effect in most jurisdictions has an overly broad reach, and it requires not only a list, but also that the Sheriff/PD contact all of the people in a set area and advise them of the offenders whereabouts.
So -- let me pose this one. If your 18 YO son didlles his 15 yo girlfriend with her total consent, and her irate mommy finds out, do you not only want your kid to go to jail, but also all of the neighbors in a XX block area to get a notice saying you have a sexual predator living under your roof? What is the benefit of that?
In Cincinnati, we have some of the most conservative law enforcement people in the nation. And our Sheriff, who tops that list, opposes vehemently the expansion of the registration laws.
Think there is a reason for that? Think he knows that ,aybe they dont prevent a damn thing and only add to the cost of him operating his jails and having to staff an office of bureaucreats to deal with this?

Source,
Here is one for you.
This guy - he's in my zip code and I know the full story. But when you read his listing it says "Sodomy, 2nd Degree - Vicitim Age 12". And that sounds pretty damned horrific.
Kid is 18 - senior in HS. The victim's parents were pretty weel known restratuers here locally. Had a couple of very popular eateries and worked all hours of the night keeping the people happy.
They had an 18 year old and 12 year old daughters.
While mom and pops were working, there were some pretty damn wild parties at their house. The booze was always readily available to the kids courtesy of the parents.
The 18 year old daughter has one of her usual parties. This guy gets hammered - passes out on the couch. Apprently before he finally passed out, the younger girl and her friends had been flirting with him. Lots of witnesses to this.
About 4 am, Dad comes home and finds this kid passed out on the couch and his 12 year old has the kids pants down and she is sucking his dick. Another kid had seen the 12 year old shortly before that and he told the cops the "perpetrator" was passed out the entire time - showed no signs of being truly awake (other than a stiffy I guess!).
Bingo, bango, bongo - the kid gets a few years in the state penitentiary and now is labeled for life.
Maybe you think that is reasonable. I dunno.
I am done making my point on the topic. I'll agree to disagree with any of you.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

Given your example I totally agree with you. Expanding the already overreaching government's hand in most situations is not something I will ever stand behind.Tim,

That said, I'm in full support of the real offenders being publicly outed. To your point, I believe that full discretion of all of your convictions should be available for the general public to easily access.
If I have the knowledge of who my neighbors are currently it would likely affect how we do some things, such as where we take walks. I don't consider it paranoia to not want my wife and daughter to walk by a convicted pedophile's house on a daily basis as part of their routine.

Should have not been drunk enough to pass out in front of minors with an unsecured penis. His bad. Shoulda put a Master Lock on his zipper.
That's why judges should have a decisive ability.Comment

Bah - but they are elected - so, what judge wants to not bow to the pressure of publicity if he would set the alleged sex offender free!

Looks like the problem is not necessarely the list being public, but who gets onto that list. Every year, I catch a few kids, drunk, pissing on my "wall". I just yell at them, they piss all over themself and they leave, grumpy. But that's it. I don't think they deserve to be publicly know as sex offenders. And as in certain US states, it ils illegal that a 15 year old girl has sex with a 17 year old boy. That shouldn't make them sexual offenders. This is nowhere close to rapists or pedophiles.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Yep, that's true. Hence why I said "easily." Pulling up a Google map with your neighborhood and clickable icons for every offender is a little easier than perusing non-user friendly databases randomly mining information about the people who live down the street.
