    WWII Uniform Help

    I know this is a long shot...but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I'm looking for some period correct WWII gear. If anyone has anything at all...and I mean anything they want to give up or lend for a few days, please let me know. This means jackets, pants, shirts, belts, suspenders, boots, helmets, guns, ammo, etc, etc for German and US troops. It sure as hell beats $300 a costume for one week.

For those who are still reading this thread...it's for my thesis. Yep, I'm a poor college student. I'm doing a body of work on WWII POW's...specifically Air Force. My grandpa was a POW, this is more a less a tribute for him and all POW's/veterans.

If you feel the need to contribute pm me...maybe we can exchange clothes for prints or something

    Thanks for any help

I'd hit up army surplus stores, if you can't find actual issued gear you can usually find reproductions that are pretty reasonable. You have to look around though to actually find a deal.

Contact your local VFW. Go to the meeting hall and talk to them, tell them your story.

I bet you get more help that you would ever believe.

There are some great suggestions here. During WWII it was the Army Air Corp. Khaki was a standard and you can put together a real close "uniform" from Target. Surplus stores will have the cap and belt. Most "collector" people who have WWII uniforms are not quick to loan them out. I loaned my high altitude lined boots to a museum and they lost them. Noble pursuit and I commend you for remembering.

I believe a company called InterOrdnance has some repro. WWII gear, Southern Ohio Gun had some 8mm Nazi ammo at one time. Genuine gear would be rather pricey now, there are a lot of collectors/reinactors that have been driving the price up. Also, this old gear is now over sixty years old, not much left. As far as guns go, Cali. doesn't like guns and if someone shipped you something it would be a big no-no. Even going from one city to another could make your life very complicated, so check on the laws. This also holds for some knives like bayonets. As others have said, a VFW may be able to help you out, or a shooting range for the guns.

Dude Ebay is where its at.

I bought a genuine unused WWII Nazi Germany gasmask with unused filter for like 20 bucks about 8 years ago. Just sayin..

And I dont know where its at anymore, but it was awesome on stage when I played musica :)

Thanks for all of the help/comments. I realize that they are somewhat hard to come by, but I'm not looking for genuine stuff here...just something that looks the part.

The problem I am running into is a genuine looking german infantry outfit...with helmets and guns and all. I checked out a few surplus stores and they sell different parts of outfits, I was just hoping I might not have to buy everything.

I never even thought of ebay and the VFW...those are damn good ideas

Nonetheless, I'm open to any more ideas. Thanks!

The German infantry normally used K98k Mausers (8mm ammo), officers had P-08 Lugers or P-38's (both 9mm ammo). You may be able to buy airsoft replicas for cheap or some type of toy gun online that would be realistic enough. A company called "Sportsman's Guide" has surplus German uniforms. Try this link http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/sear...&k=german+coat and this link http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/sear...=browse&c=&p=1 The pattern they call "fleck" (worn by some soldiers in the war), or some of the gray, wool looking uniforms may be close to what you are looking for.
