    Need suspension help ASAP

Just put on the IE3s/Bilsteins/IE RSMs, and have a big issue. I installed the IE RSMs as I *assumed* they went on, in the order of from top to bottom: nut, washer, bushing, aluminum mount, and bushing on the bottom. I was skeptical about there being no metal sleeve in the center, but Jeff ensured me that all I needed to do was tighten it down until the urethane bulged slightly and I'd be good. So I did.

First bump, shocks punched right through, just as I thought they would. Do I not have them assembled correctly?

I don't have any experience with IE's RSM's, but to my eye they still look like they would need the lower cupped washer from the stock mount to distribute the load and prevent the shock piston from ass-raping the RSM bushing.

Did you reuse the big hard steel stock washer that holds the dust sleeve and sits right agains the bottom bushing or another washer if you want stiffer?

      What shocks are you using?

No, I didn't... I used the new RSMs and new shocks and didn't figure I'd need anything from the old setup, because the last two times I haven't needed anything.

        Shocks are Bilstein Sports.

I'd call Ireland Engineering and ask them for a definitive answer about the lower cupped washer but the following things occur to me:

          1. When you buy new OE RSM's you still need that washer but it usually isn't included in the sale.

          2. Without the washer there is nothing to mount the dust sleeve to

          3. Without the washer you are relying on a piece of rubber or urethane to support the end of the piston under heavy dynamic loads.

Fixed it, got some thick hardened steel washers from work and made my own "cupped washer." Also, used an interesting boot setup off of some truck shocks we had on display for the rears so they're nice and protected. :)
