jackass move of the day

My jackass move of the day (month!!!) happened this afternoon. My E30 is a project in the works, so things are getting done bit by bit.

I went to install a new BOSCH battery in the trunk, checked the oil level, started it up and let it iddle for a while. The car has been sitting for a few weeks and it has been cold, so I went through all the controls, lights, etc...all seemed fine.

Time for a test drive...went off slowly...no sudden accelerations. Went onto a side street got up to 30 and cruised along nice and slow. Got up to 40 and..WHOOOOOOOSH...my sunroof panel flies out of its position...lands on shoulder in the street by the curb (unharmed and lightly scratched!!!)


Dumb-ass-me forgot that the panel was just resting on the roof. All of the moutning points are corroded and the panel will get replaced, but I still want it on the car to seal it off and not have the roof open.

I feel quite lucky no one was behind me. Feel like an idiot! :(

Years ago I had a 76 2002 with a sunroof, I was doing about 105 ( fast as she would go ) and saw a little gap appear in between the front of the sunroof and the roof out of the top of my eye. Not 1/2 second later a big whooop and it was gone, saw it in the rear view mirror about 40 feet up, I didn't even bother to stop and get it.
