C: just blew up, fucking maxtor drive. I didn't even know I was running it. Worthless.

Of course, me being awesome, I haven't backed up for a lonnggg time.

And of COURSE, when I recover the drive, I can get everything off it EXCEPT "My Documents" which was the only god damn folder I really cared about.

I agree 110%. We sell them made cheap at Staples and that's for a reason. Sure Seagate just bought the company, but I HIGHLY doubt we'll see an improvement on Maxtor products.

And it was a maxtor refurb to boot.... Musta been a drive that died for me that I RMA'd because it was under warranty.

How the hell that ended up as my main drive? I have no idea.

Actually.... I think it was my old old main drive. It blew, but I had it all backed up. RMA'd it, then used it again. And now it blew again, and I am out a shit ton of stuff.

I still buy nothing but Western Digital. I also keep all my important files on a separate hard drive then the HD Windows is installed on. Viruses are a lot less likely to attach them selves to a file they don't know instead of some windows system file. So, if I do get a virus (which has never happened) I can just format the drive and reinstall windows without losing my shit.

I call bullshit. So your telling me, if I find some unknown 3rd party brand made in china that its just as likely to fail as a seagate? Doubtful.

Hard drives WILL fail eventually, I don't care who makes them. But they are not all the same. Maxtors don't like heat, if you so much as fucking fart a smelly methane hot fart at them they will probably blow. I can't even count how many damn times I have had to replace a maxtor drive.

On the other hand, I can't recall the last time I have replaced a seagate drive. Yup, it will die someday, but I will put all my money on a maxtor dying before a seagate will. I have an office computer at work, with 6 hard drives in it (3 mirrored) In about 1 month 3 maxtors blew out. Being sick of it I replaced them all with seagate. They have been running flawlessly for 2 years now. I don't think the maxtors made it half that.

I used to run WD for a longggg time, then they started going out on me all the time, thats when I switched to maxtor. Then they started to suck bad and I switched to seagate. Don't know anything about WDs current product, but they used to be good, then sucked, now I don't know.

i had a maxtor crap on me, it has a good 160 gb of music and a ton of pics. I thought it was just my bad luck

the best is is that mine was a rebuild too- a friend got for me.

I wish bad things on the owner of Maxtor!!!

I've had IBM, Hitachi, Maxtor, Seagate, Conner, WD drives fail on me or PC's I've repaired. If you care about data, back it up.
