    Viruses and bots?

Here's a question for techies. How are forum members protected against virus attacks and bots uploaded by pirates?

    TIA

I just saw a documentary about viruses that can infest computers via forums they visit, making host computers "zombies" that can relay mass emails (spam) or shit like that. Basically, the question is can a forum be used to relay viruses. And are forums protected from such attacks.

You run Norton? Yuck. I guess that explains why you use a Mac...

I haven't ever heard of a virus that "auto infects" from a forum or website. ActiveX controls run automatically, but both IE and Firefox stop the script from running and ask if you want to so....

I'd like to here more input on this as I'm not really sure.

you do realize macs are MORE vulnerable to attack than PC's right? There are just more window's users and thus more reason for attack. Say you attack windows users and you only strike 1% of all the users you still are getting more than 50% of mac users.

                Mac. nobody gives a shit

and on note about the entire topic, chances are you can't get viruses through a forum. However, forums are known to have numerous XSS holes. For example, someone could inject script and get you redirected to their malicious page without you knowing. Like open an iframe of size 0 in their thread or something and have their page be inside that frame running code thats fucks you over, you'd never know it.

...and thats just the most basic, easiest way to do it

                        So true lol.

So what do you guys run? I don't run anything, because I am not an idiot and I can usually tell if something is running that shouldn't be.

I use PC Tools spyware doctor for spyware though, gets a lot of shit spybot doesn't.

I use Trend Client Server Security at work though, I love trend AV, works damn good.

Run avast antivirus. It's free. It runs realtime. Its good.

And you might think you know whats running but something could have rootkitted you and you have no idea

I just use the AVG Free edition. It isn't a memory hog, has never bogged my computer, and haven't had a problem yet. Then again, the only downloading I do is torrents.

Norton corporate edition isn't that bad. You guys might be thinking of the consumer edition.
