    Yes, the EA6-B's are being phased out. I used to work on them; they were a fucking maintenance nightmare with all of the advanced avionics. They are supposed to be replaced with something called the Growler.

      My old man flew the A-6A in 'nam. That airframe has been around for a loooong time. But, it gets the job done and could haul some serious ordinance.

            Yeah, it is... that's the end goal. From what I've heard though, they're the hardest to land on the boat, so the best pilots get sent there. Growler's in flight test at Patuxtent River NAS right now.

            2010's right about when I'll be coming out of Advanced (the section of training right before get to the operational aircraft)... Sweeeeeet.

              Dude, the Marine Corps still uses Hueys and Cobras, two other Vietnam-era platforms. They've been around so long the latest iteration is the AH-1Z. They started with the A-model.
