Yes, but unfortunately, it is Corvallis and a university, very few will listen. You will also get flat blasted for stating an opinion contrary to whatever the Women's Bvilding wants you to think.

FWIW, I agree with you. It is a normal bodily function and yes, it is unique to women (pre menopause that is), but that does not mean it is something to celebrate. You could also celebrate the fact that the vagina is a wonderful breeding ground for all kinds of nasty infections and fungi to grow. Let's celebrate that too.

Which brings up a good point, if you are a post menopause woman, does that mean you are less of a woman than those that still do bleed?

Now if women want to celebrate something that is unique to them, I suggest they celebrate breasts. Breasts feed us all when we are young, and most everybody likes looking at them. What a beautiful thing to celebrate.

I remember back on campus they proclaimed that if you wore denim on Gay Pride week, you were showing your support for Gay Pride. Now, although I am not against anyone having pride in themselves, I am against them arbitrarily labelling something I wore every day as a political statement. So, I had to find a way to NOT wear denim all week long. Pretty tough when all my pants were Levi's.

I just read this to all my room mates, and since we do celebrate our feces production and praise the almighty toilet for taking so much abuse, this just made a bad night good again.

What kind of responses are you getting?

You deserve a fucking Pulitzer Prize for that. If they don't print it, kill everyone that works at the paper.

started a topic I'm in the school paper!

    I'm in the school paper!

not for any big accomplishment though. It was actually because an article in Friday's paper grossed me the fuck out and I had to do something about it. Here's a link to the article:

Basically, the 'Womens Center' on campus put on a "Red River Celebration", which was supposed to make women less ashamed of their periods. One girl went so far as to say "We've been taught to be ashamed of our cycle, like it's some dirty disgusting thing. We should be proud of it."

They decorated cupcakes with icing to look like bleeding vaginas, and make pirates and other caricatures out of tampons and maxi pads.

I was pretty gorssed out by this, so I wrote a letter to the editor. I really didn't think they would publish it, but low-and-behold they did! Here's the letter:

"In response to The Daily Barometer’s column on Friday, 2/22/08, entitled “Recognizing the Power of the Female Body”,

Let me precede this letter by stating my opinion that I am very much a supporter of women’s rights. I applaud the efforts of such institutions as “The Vagina Monologues” to combat things such as domestic violence, abuse against women, rape and sexual exploitation.

However I find it somewhat hard to believe that the period is something to be “proud” of, as Angi Baxter states. It may be a natural part of the human body, but it is far from appealing or likable. I see no need to flaunt, advertise or promote it with bleeding vagina cupcakes or sanitary device art pieces. When I use the toilet in the morning after my daily bowl of oatmeal, I don’t look down in to it and say “I’m proud of that! I think I’ll turn it in to a poop pirate!” Yet feces and urine are natural human excrements, just the same as menstrual blood.

But maybe I am looking at this all wrong, maybe I don’t get it because I’m a guy. So for all intents and purposes, why not include men in the bodily excrement admiration movement too. Let’s have a Feces Appreciation Day, or a Urine Awareness Week. Let us put on a Bile, Mucous and Snot Pride Conference. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the infamous “2 Girls, 1 Cup” video isn’t really that unpleasant. After all, it’s just 2 women taking pride in their bodily excrements, and there’s nothing gross about that, right?

So, do you think i got my point across?
