There is something like that parked up at a local airport near me. I'll have to snap a pic and post it here but from 300 yards (closest road) it looks like the PV2 posted above.

I read an article on "environmentalgrafitti.com" about airplane bone yards. There were a few shots of the B36 & SR71 at the Castle museum. They were labeling these static displays as bone yards... I hate hippies.

It might be a Harpoon, might also be a Ventura, they look nearly identical, but the Harpoon has bigger engines, longer wings and a slightly different tail. Here is the registry for the Harpoons http://www.warbirdregistry.org/pv2ha...nregistry.html

The Castle Air Museums b36 and SR-71 (960, potentially still flyable, with a lot of work. It was flown to Castle and parked.) are both looking pretty long on the tooth. I stop by there every time I head to my mother's place, and every year 960 looks a little more tired. They also have an AVRO Vulcan bomber.

Note my Avitar, yes, that is 960 in the background. I've never autoXed there. Its about two hours away, not really a big deal as I already drive two hours down to Monterey to autoX. I hear the surface is pretty good.

^ive never even seen an airplane like that. i wonder what that is? the windows look kind of like it could be a martin of some sort. its rare. i doubt there were very produced.

it has inverted inline 6 cyl aircooled engines. not the usual radials. i doubt its a lockheed since their aircraft from this era usually had twin tails.

DeHavilland built some cool planes. A Beaver would be cool, and learning how to fly in either a Tiger Moth or Chipmonk would be awesome. One of my favorite things to do when I visit Vancouver BC is to watch and listen to the float planes (mostly Beavers) come and go.

There is a guy with a Tiger Moth at one of the airports here. I've never seen it fly, but its there.

I think a grumman widgeon or goose would be even cooler though for that kind money especially the latter with the jr wasp for power. I had a thing for flying boats a few years ago

Uh, yes please! Too bad they are rare as hens teeth. As far as I know, there are only 3 in North America, one flying, one that might fly (flew to its current location in Oshkosh) and one in Vancouver BC that should fly in the very near future. As of now however, there is still only one that flies. You gotta love the sound of a pair of Rolls Royce Merlins at full song. Yeah, its the best sound, short of, perhaps, a Rolls Royce Griffon thats been race prepped and pushing 500 mph. (By the way, there is only one of those flying around as well, and it might be all taken apart. The Griffon belongs to a Reno Air Race Unlimited P51 Mustang that has been heavily modified. It makes a sound all its own.)
