Yes. that was unfortunate. I wonder what happened to kill the pilot? He made a superb gear up water landing as evidenced by how little damage was done to the plane. I sort of know one of the other guys who was on that flight. (The owner of the Reno Unlimited racer Precious Metal.)

That incident was a tough one for the warbird community.

Maybe blunt force trauma from hitting the instrument panel or something? While not all airplanes break up on impact during a ditching, it is extremely violent. If he ended up upside down (very likely in a ditching), he could have just drowned even if the plane didn't sink. Best guesses not knowing anything about the incident itself.

nice omega tail flash………I've sucked some gas from them……cool jets with some history, being converted former airline 707's rather than KC-135's……..and they are much nicer to plug with a big soft basket than their -135 cousin with steel baskets and shitty short hoses that will rip your probe off in an instant of inattention.

Sweet! Was that for the anniversary?

Are they all in order? I see 707, not sure (MD?), 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, and a new 787. And SAM 970 (have been inside that one).

One of my favorite planes is the 247 in the foreground. Would have been fun to be there when it landed.

the md is a delta airlines 717 that was originally an air tran(southwest) airplane. i see a dc3 and a mitchell b25 on the far left as well.

by default, nc-879h must be the sam 970?

I'm sorry - the Air Force 1 707 was Special Air Mission 970. My memory is that was the Nixon, Ford, Carter, etc plane, until they bought the 747s. The Kennedy Dallas plane is elsewhere, but was used for many years.

They have this one set up just the way it was - big high backed swivel chairs, white phones and intercoms, a radio console... much of it behind clear lexan so little hands don't wear it out.

Weren't the SAM 707s used as VP and VIP transport for many years until they retired?

The 247 was in restoration in Everett for 10 years, then flown down to Seattle for this 100th anniversary and parked for good.

Unrelated - we have one of those historic tours in town and a silver and blue B-25 is rumbling around. Such a great noise, and it sounds like it's barely above idle.

I'm looking forward to collaborating with my friend who shot these at the Reno Air Races in September.

Sorry, not sure why the pics are so large.

Very convex nature of the cone distorts the reflection and a zoom lens to stand 15 feet ish off the cone will make him look like an ant in the reflection.

Connor (My friend) was using a 500mm lens from about 40 yards away. The funny thing about the pic is that he couldn't remember if it was a Howard or a Stinson V77. The EAA published a bunch of his stuff on Facebook. He is pretty much a shoo in for a media pass for next year. He has come a long way with his photography in the past few years.

Here is another of his shots.
