Also, something like 60% of the aircraft would be made and/or assembled in the States (in contrast to Boeing's projection of closer to 80%), which they claim would result in the creation of ~30,000 jobs in historically poor parts of the country, bringing much needed revenue to those areas.

While there is something going on with the awarding of the contract, everything right now points to a cocky Boeing, drowning in lucrative backorders for the 787, proposing an inferior product and doing a poor job of selling it. Since Boeing has filed protest, there's a mandatory 100 stop work order in place, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Also, in regards to the OP, I fail to see how pandering to the 'angry white man' demographic is any different than what they're supposed to be angry about.

No one said anything about a tax exemption.

If you keep that money in an economy that is being inflated because people are afraid of recession, then it might actually help.

There are also the non-economic ramifications of having to be, in any way, dependant on parts for an aircraft over the next 25 years + (or whatever they deam the service life of the aircraft) on a country that has globally denounced us frequently over the last decade? I don't think that is wise policy.

Boeing did take a proverbial shit on the 787. Fine. But regardless of that, none of that money should be leaving this country. Smaller items, OK I guess... but this is enough money to seriously impact the economy in areas where it is spent and potentially nationally. To see 40% of the assembly leave the country is rediculous and fiscally irresponsible. I suppose that it would be nearly impossible to keep all of the jobs in the US, but there should be more here than that.

You also ommitted to portion about how the GOV changed the specs to better fit the Airbus design after the fact, right? This isn't conspiracy theroy - it was on CSPAN clearly when they were discussing it - then terminated the conversation publicly once this had all come to light.

The same people who made this happen are also now flying around the Pres. in a european manufactured chopper (I forget specific company).

The vendor and supplier list for both Boeing and EADS would be nearly identical. I can assure you Boeing will have project critical components made in China, Taiwan, Brazil, Spain, France....

While I can understand your nationalism, the issue I hinted at before is that Boeing is so flush with cash right now - $255 billion worth of 787 orders, not to mention service contracts - that they're doing all they can to hire and stay on top of those contracts, let alone the tanker job. While the loss of the tanker contract is certainly not desirable, it has by no means the economy crushing potential that one might think.

Thats a Lockheed/AgustaWestland joint venture. They've done a pretty good job at fucking that one up, too. 18 months into the project and they're a year behind and 40% over budget. Last I heard they had a temporary injunction against the stop work, but my guess is that with the departure of Tony Blair, we don't owe favors to anyone anymore and the contract will come back to Sikorsky (where it belongs, in my opinion).

I am an angry white man. I think that it correctly describes the way most, if not all, men should be. I'm really getting tired of men knuckling under. Stand up, be tall, hold your stance in the face of opposition. But, be smart enough to know when to hold your tongue. Guns aren't just guns. They stand for more than that. Guns represent our ability to protect our freedoms, and if someone thinks that we shouldn't be able to own them then we need to protect our freedom and tell them 'no'. We are allowed to have them for that very reason. What happens when someone wants to take away one of our most effective means of protecting our freedoms? Talk doesn't do us any good. Actions speak far louder than words ever can. If we let anyone infringe upon our rights, we may as well lay down and die.

This is relevant to what I studied today in a Social Psychology class today. It was a video on just the oppostie of this. It said we, as men, need to be more kind and caring. I couldn't help but disagree with it. Things have balance in this world and they require it to function properly. Men need to be rational. Women need to be emotional. They balance each other out. Two halves of a whole. It's beyond me why people wanna screw with that...

Well, that's all the time I have, folks. That's my take on this whole thing.

Oh, and I agree with the above post. "White" has nothing to do with it.

Jobs are leaving this country and they will continue to leave this country. The standard of living in the US and Western Europe will continue to decline compared to the rest of the world. This is free markets and capitalism on a planetary scale and in it's purest form. There are no longer any American companies, there are multi-nationals. What "angry white man" is really pissed about is those companies don't care about him and never did. He doesn't really want capitalism and free markets. In his heart he is a fascist and his empire is in decline. Nothing can withstand the force of that change and he is angry because there is nothing he can do to stop it.
Angry is not happy and certainly not attractive. Maybe that's why women are on the list!

Its hard for me to get worked up since I know that the white man still runs the world.

Know this, we are still exploiting India and China. Its just a different form of colonialism.
