All the sites (sony, new egg, tiger direct, pny) that sell ram say my comp (sony vaio vgc-rb34g, XP SP2, 3.20ghz pentium 4 w/HT) can have up to 2gb, but Intels site says my mother bored/processor can handle 4. Who's info should I go with?

This has almost nothing to do with your computer, though it REALLY matters what RAM you buy due to the voltage. If the motherboard can't handle the voltage your ram is toast. And on the same note, the amount of RAM you can run is completely related to the operating system you're running. Windows XP can run 2 GB's, 3 ONLY if you're experienced with changing BIOS settings. Windows Vista can run 3-4 GBs with almost no problems. And 64-Bit versions of both operating systems support up to 8 GBs.

    Hope this helps.

Still dont get it? Flash drive makes sense, but a flash hard disk drive...?

I know perfectly well what a flash drive is. I replaced a HDD with a flash drive in my iPod mini like two years ago.

http://www.boxxtech.com/ do pretty highend workstations aswell.

Anything with a quad core cpu, 4gb+ ram, nice soundcard, beefy graphics and a nice lcd will be suitable for that though.

I would love to take Vista off this thing and put XP on. But it came with Vista and I don't feel like looking for drivers. I just need to stop being lazy and order 2GB.

Yep, I've built my own PC's for the last 6-7 years, and this time, I switched and went not only to a prebuilt, but also to a Dell. It's kind of nice knowing that if anything goes wrong, it wasn't something I did, and it's got a warranty.

                    QFT Those things are redonkulous!

I used to have an iRam setup which was basically a pci card with ram slots on it with a IDE cable. It was basically ram turned into a hard drive. I had 2gb's of ram in it and installed windows on it, that shit was retarded fast.

ok i dont have any intension of hijacking this thread but can someone who knows their stuff help me out.

I had a "friend" build me a pc. he bought everything put it together and it worked. he over clocked it and it was all cool.

I then got a virus, he reformatted everything and it was fine. until i had to shut down. now the tower gets power and i get nothing on the screen. its been like a week.

can the motherboard go bad that quick and is it possible? thats what he said and something about the BIOS not being stable... im tempted to just tell him to take the PC, and go out and buy a pre-built one for a bit more.

                      your thoughts guys.

I am also thinking upgrading my 1Gb MacBook to 4Gb. Currently, at 1Gb, it feels like the OS is taking all the place.
