I test drove about 3 Wrx's a few years ago before I got my E36. I wanted one badly. Just lacked the charisma I find in BMW interior and handling and feel.

I guess I can make this my first post, Mostly been on here reading about a next project.

I own a 2002 2.5rs. basic modding. Love the car. I have worked on many many many wrx's and sti's over the years. They are great car but do have some problems depending on what model you get.

with a 06 wrx you get the 2.5l engine that was the first year the 2.5 came in the wrx. The 04-current sti was a 2.5l while the 02-05 usdm wrx was a 2.0l. If you were to upgrade your injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, and turbo with a tune on 93oct you'll be at 300whp easy. Just had a friend do it. only only bad thing for the buyers of wrx's and sti's right now is that these car are keeping there values very well. I bought mine for 10k with 63k. If I were to sell to today with 92k with the basic bit of mods on it I could get around 9k for it.

any questions feel free to pm me. I know my stuff about subarus. I am a bit addicted to them.

      for anyone that asks:

those black rims are gone... don't ask, it was at the rice part of my life...

edit: I see you are in S. MI. where abouts? I live in south bend out of the semester here at school. if you feel like checking out a meet PM me. we have are first big one on may 17th.

wrong motor. the SVX was 3.3L. you are looking at the 3.0L. i've owned 5 and the only problems they have are brakes on all years, and trannys on 92-93. some later model cars had trans issues as well. but it was worked out over time.

So was the xt6 a 3.3l too? I don't know a ton about pre 99 subarus. I had seen people having problems with the head gaskets on them. I had that problem on mine and had to replace them.

I have only seen one SVX, but it was in a junkyard. they are pretty rare cars now.

nah. as far as I know, there have only been three flat 6 motors. all in different cars. 2.7L-XT6, 3.0L-Outback, 3.3L-SVX.

and yes the SVX is quite rare now. i believe the total production from 92-97 was just shy of 25,000 units worldwide. I have killed three personally. they have alot of intersting quirks, features and history. such as it was used as an indy pace car one year, the never made factory 5spd, there were some prototype AWS and Twin Turbo cars, you can go from AWD to FWD with a 10A Fuse, they offered this car in FWD as well,.... etc. Another time and place for all that though.

My brother owns a 2006 WRX TR, and it is what i have been driving while the E30 is getting painted. It only has a little over 7k miles on it, but it's been a good car. The only real quirk we've experienced is it has its fair share of rattles on the inside, and the hood scoop creates a lot of wind noise. Putting it into first gear at a stoplight etc takes effort as its really notchy, but really we have not had any problems.

Here is a picture of it.

If you want to know anything specific about it, let me know. As said, the gas mileage is not that great, but its not horrible, either. I get about 280 miles on a full tank.

Not sure if this response is timely, but my daily driver is a 2005 Legacy GT. If you are looking at a WRX TR, I would recommend you also look at 2005-2006 LGTs, which inexplicably sell for close to (if not less than) what the same year WRXs go for. Both LGT has the 2.5L engine and a slightly better turbo, as well as a much nicer interior (most have leather interior), more room, more stealth, and IMO look much nicer.

subaru's are tight! they are reliable if you know how to drive it, hehe. my brother owns one and my close friend drives one. i hang out with a lot of subis from this from http://forums.nasioc.com/ ... you should visit that forum because you will find many subi geeks in there that knows their shit like it's the back of their hand.

The socal chapter called XXX from forums.nasioc.com are actually challenging us socal r3v e30 owners for a go cart race somewhere in OC; we'll let you know who wins, haha

I have 73K on a 2002 WRX wagon (known for a weak tranny) - stock except for upgraded brakes. Parts are fairly affordable and it's been reliable. I know someone with over 160K on a modified 02 WRX with very few problems.

Some people are concerned about buying them used, but I picked this up with 29K it was well cared for.

I think it's a good choice for MI winters.
