I've recently been looking to purchase a DSLR, an like most people I've been looking into the D40 or the XT. I came across a D70 in good condition, lens, 3 batts, a 256mb cf-card, and all manuals/software for $350. If it's still available next week I'll probably pick it up. Any experiences with the D70 vs. an XT or D40?

Good deal if the shutter count is not out there. I'd pick d70 over d40. I don't know much about them except for the fact that d40 has some funkiness in lens capability. Ask for proof of shutter actuations.'96 328is

D40 lacks autofocus, you need AF lenses (more expensive) for the D40.
D70 is decent, but I would rather go with a D50 and save a few bucks. I think the D50 is superior in some aspects than the D70.
I personally have been debating taking the plunge and may just hold out till I can get a deal on a D80.Claus Luthe is my hero.
