Those of you from Santa Barbara

What's it like? I mean, if you weren't a college student, what's the chance that you're going to enjoy living there?

I got a job offer a few days ago that would put me right at the heart of Hollister Ave., but am skeptical of how worth my time it would be. Cost of living? Existence of night scene (assuming I didn't hangout with college kids for a night or two)? Stuff to do?

It's a small chance I'll take the job, but figured I'd get an idea of what it'd be like to live there.

i liked it up there, but it's really expensive and you have to deal with some pricks.

Oh, you'll enjoy living there - it's like living on a god damn move set. Everything is perfect. It's 72 degrees year round. It rains one week at the year at the most. Home prices and rents are insane. I'm mean almost NY insane. There are plenty of "affordable" $2000 a month 2 bedroom shithole apartments. (crappy building, no dishwasher, no view, limited parking) - look on craigs list to get an idea.

There is a saying in SB, "either you move there with money, or you don't have any"

If you are 20ish, and don't care sign over 1/3 or more of your paycheck every month to a landlord - then it might be right for you. Unless you want roommates - some people there even SHARE a room, and that is with a decent job. If you have deep pockets, you won't need to worry. If you are struggeling now, and move to SB. Plan on taking the bus to get around town.

Sorry I had to LOL. The "heart of holister ave" is right freaking next to the airport. It's the bad side of town (it's not bad at all - but that is what it is kinda refereed to). There are a few aerospace companies still there from the hey-days of the aerospace/miltiary spending, and a few spin offs, but most of the companies are moving out of town. It seems their workers can't afford to live there anymore. That and the city is awful at supporting companies there. A lot of companies are being chased out of town.

The night scene is amazing - the women are perfect. Even the ugly chicks are fucking hot(they work extra hard). It's like LA, with out all the fake-ness. State street, the main drag in town is the place to be Wednesday to Saturday. There is just one bar/club after another. If you live in goleta, you'll have to take a $50 cab rided to get there though.

Have them fly you out on a Thursday for a interview on Friday. Stay a night or two. You'll fall in love.
Will they fly you out? - Most likely not. Companies there are cheap asses. They know if you don't move there, some other smuck will.
Try and get a good salary - keep sighting cost of living is the only way to get money out of them.

They people there are really cool (it's 99.9% prick free IMHO). It was one of the reasons I moved there. It's a very laid back town that likes to party. Every month there is some reason to go out and celebrate. Traffic is great except on friday night between 4-7, and sunday 2-7. It's the LA people on the 101 (then you just take side streets)

Let me know if you have any other q's.

        Thanks George.

I've been to SB plenty, I just never got the jist of actually living there. Most of my time spent was hammered drunk walking from house to house.

Didn't mean anything by "heart of Hollister Ave," I know that road just because that's where the dorms are and where the campus sorta begins. Didn't know the airport was there--or 'bad' neighborhoods. Edit: looking at the map more closely, I got the wrong idea of where it was. Says it's in Goleta, wherever that is in relation to campus, I don't know.

I knew housing was expensive; my sis goes to UCSB and she pays ~$900/month with four other roommates. I think I'd rather find a place back in San Diego for the same price, but where I know people.

I'm in Ventura about 40min south of SB. I went to UCSB in the early '80s. I'm up there a lot it's nice, nothing is cheap there though.

The beaches are better down here. (the chicks too)

Santa Barbara is the double-D, perky, hard-nipple-breasted bosom of California.

Speaking of awesome tits. I hung out with a girl this weekend that had beautiful H's in her bra. But somehow they were perky. And they were natural. My mouth watered when I saw them.
