Someone pls help - B18 timing belt, gears won't line up

Hey guys, maybe someone here can help me before I get a reply on the local Honda forums. Doing the timing belt on my beater, I really need this thing back on the road tomorrow and I can't sort out the timing. I've followed the procedure for installing it, tensioning etc. But I can't get the timing marks to line up! I've tried it one tooth one way or the other but then it ends up being WAY off. Now it's off by like half a tooth. Is this fine or do I have to keep troubleshooting? If the latter, what can you suggest? Is it a defective belt (Continental)?

    What it looks like:

Crank is at TDC, the mark on the cover is in the middle of the 3 dots:

You're just gonna have to keep trying. My B16 was a pain in the ass too. I thought i was going crazy.

It's a little easier if you have a buddy to hold the intake cam perfectly straight while you work the tensioner and slide the belt on.

    Good luck!
