    Rugby anyone?

I know Maluco started a good Soccer/Futbol thread, but I was wondering if anyone is into Rugby. i just finished my Senior year at CSU Sacramento playing Rugby,(norcal is a rugby mecca so to speak) and it is something I cant imagine not doing. it is truly a beautiful sport, with great traditions, sportsmanship, and culture. It has grown greatly in the last few years here in the states, but it is still rare to come across another fan, or player for that matter. Has anyone else here played or just been a fan of rugby world wide or what ever? Would love to hear from you.

I was a hooker for four years in high school. The three years I played varsity, we placed 5th, 7th and 3rd nationally. Never lost in the state either, even to quite a few colleges. We even toured England, Ireland and Whales. My senior year we played the National tournament in Palo Alto, and Cali definitely is a breeding ground for rugby.

So you must have played Jesuit of Sacramento? They are usually top 3 in HS for many years now. We get many players from them. My coach played with them, and then played at Cal. Going on tour in the UK must have been dope, the rugby motherland, well at least thats where it started. I guess NZ would be the motherland. I play Palo Alto 7's in the summer with the Sac Capitals. Good to hear from you.

No, I played for a team up here called the Kent Crusaders. We lost to Jesuit the year we placed third. We also hosted them and played them up here once when they were touring. We actually beat them then, and lost to them later in the year. My club isn't as consistently good, but for the years I played there, we were in the first tier national tournament every year, and did fairly well.

Playing in the UK and Ireland was very cool, and humbling. Taking a top 5 team in the country over there, and having not lost a game in a long time, we got beat something like 80-19 the first game, lost a very close one the second time, and won our last game on a last second try. The level of play over there is amazing. Some of those fucks were drinking beer and smoking like 30 minutes before the game. We were much bigger and better conditioned, but they just knew the game so much better.

They all had bars in their club houses though, and were friendly (as soon as the game was over). And on a completely unrelated note, I lost my virginity while in Dublin.

That sounds great, especially loosing your virginity while on tour playing rugby FTW! When was all of this BTW? The only place i have toured is in Canada, but it was fun, good teams. Well I guess we know there are at least 3 ruggers on R3V. Hope some more show up.

I played from 2002 to 2005, and we toured in 2004. We also had an annual game to start the year off in Canada. Some all star high school team, and it was always a very good match and a lot of fun.

As far as days of the week, I don't know what you're talking about pierced.

You've really never heard the song Day's of the Week? And you play(ed) rugby?!
Oh man, at the rugby games at LA Tech, it would always be sung at the end of the game with everyone holding pint. Let me find a site with the words on it and I'll paste them here.

Ah. My coach was very conservative. He was a hell of a rugby coach, but he was one of those guys who still views rugby as "a gentleman's game". He would get angry at me if he could hear me screaming obscenities from the sideline, or if i got punched in the face, and gave one back in return.
