My best restaurant experiences in new york are always little out of the way places. rarely have a had a memorable meal where it costs 50 -100 bucks a person. i like inexpensive ethnic places.

I need more info here. Are you into ethnic food? Do you drink? How do you dress?

They are all relevant for me to give you advise on where to go and what to do.Comment

I really enjoy ethnic food, but don't eat it too often. I am always interested in trying new foods. I love spicy foods and my wife doesn't, so they would need both types. I drink, but mostly good beers and not so much wine and mixed drinks. A good brewery would be cool. Dress....I guess I dress niceish. Mostly polos and button ups.sigpicComment

Im going to give you a list of places as a New Yorker I go to. They might not be the same as what the bridge and tunnel crowd may recommend but I stand by this selection. I also don’t recommend the touristy place like gramaldi's pizza or shit like that because IMO they are hyped up.

Drinks: Roof top bars are going to give you the best feel for being in NY because you can sip on your drinks while getting a great view of the city therefore I would suggest the two below or a third runner up for a view

Ava : http://www.avaloungenyc.com/home2.htm You will get a really nice view of times square from the roof and some of the windows from this place. Its chilled out not quite the super hot spot it once was but worth it… shoes collared shirt jeans are okay.

230 Fifth: http://www.230-fifth.com/ This place is all the rage right now.. Its packed every weekend. The bouncers are selective in terms of what you are wearing… so make sure you are wearing a collared shirt jeans are okay unless they are 80's stone washed.. I would not try to test the sneaker policy. Get ready to see awesome views of midtown from here while you are sipping on $12 drinks…which are watered down…. Despite all this.. You should still check it out as the views are amazing.

Stone Rose: http://nymag.com/listings/bar/stone_rose/ : This is not roof top but still a nice place to have a drink you will have really nice views of central park and Columbus circle here. Dress clean… shoes collared shirt jeans are okay.

FOOD: Look up these places on citysearch for locations and such if I have not provided them

 Thai:
Little Thai Kitchen : Great food only three tables no reservations…..
Lemon Grass : its on 34th between 3rd and Lex… food is great ask to sit in the back or else you are going to smell when you leave… have the Pad See Ewe it’s a noodle dish.
Other places: you can walk up and down 9th ave in the 50s nothing super outstanding but they are all okay…

Chinese: You don’t have to go to China Town for good food. If you are not Chinese you are going to be eating crap… discrimination works both ways.
http://www.grandsichuan.com/ : this is the only place I eat Chinese from. Have the beef with green peppers or the Gui Zhou chicken. Scallion Pancakes start out the meal well.
Dim Sum: Kim Fung on Elizabeth St across from the police station. This place is good.. You can get a taste of hard core Chinese food here.

 Pizza:
For regular slices I would suggest Rustic Pizza on 2nd ave (Google it) this is my fav place but almost any place you go to will have ok pizza.
For upscale pizza Patsys Pizza they also have pasta and such but the pizza is really good.

 Sweets:
Magnolia Bakery in the village had good cupcakes I don’t like them because the line is crazy but my wife does… needless to say I have waited on that line.
Vinieros : www.venierospastry.com go hungry! Great selection

 Others:
Falefals : http://www.mamounsfalafel.com/ You have to go here! Don’t leave NY with out going there. Get one Falafel pour on the hot sauce its timid ( HAHAHAHA)
Kati Roll: Chicken Unda is my fav down the same street as the falafel place.
Hot Dogs: don’t buy them from the street.. They rip you off. Go to a Papaya dog or Gray's Papaya and get the recession special ( two dogs and a drink for $3)
Chicken and Rice: on 53rd and 6th ave at night ( after 9pm) there will be a Kart serving chicken and rice. Although its called the chicken and rice place I prefer the lamb and rice from here. Don’t be fooled by other carts in this area they are all bottom feeders the real cart will be on the south west corner of 53rd st… its going to be the place with 20 people waiting on line.

That is all I can think of right now.. But if you have anything you really want to eat let me know………..Comment

nice well thought out reply avi. avi has taken me to a lot of these places and the food is awesome. i cant help but notice that avi left off his favorite place to dine.. my crotch. but i suspect he wants to keep that all for himselfIm going to give you a list of places as a New Yorker I go to. i asked you to run those pants to the tailors and get that done for me because i thought it would be easier for you to wear those when you go in for the hefty cinch sack implant in your anus to snug it up for me. i hate to complain but your ass is a lot sloppier than when we met 6 years agoComment
