I am thinking of buying a M30 engine..how much is a good price

for one of those ? There is one guy who is selling a M30 from a 6 series with a getrac 5speed, motor mounts already for an e30 and also the oil pan for the e30.... I does not has the wiring plus I may need to do a engine compression test...
what would you think they would go for ? I saw a setup in the forum for $1500 .... Is that what they go for ?

They can be had for extremely cheap. $1500 is more M50 price range AFAIK. Check Car-Part.com for prices.

Motor mounts for an e30 are a pricey item, add the oil pan in there and those two are worth close to 500$ another couple hundo for the tranny, and the motor itself should be under 500. All that combined I figure is worth about a grand. Ask funk though he sells all of them, he'll know what's the going retail rate. But know that retail rate is different from unknown parts on craigslist.

If it is an 88-89 M30 (from a 6 series) then, it is the 3.5 liter, and worth a decent amount...

Here are some approximate prices:
M30b35 complete, from 6 series - $750
Getrag 260 - $350
Motor mounts - $275
Oil pan for conversion - $175

etc etc

It a very good deal considering you know all the parts work and work together. See if he will sell you the drive shaft, and you have a "KIT" - You'll be saving a TON of money. Trust me...

Yea, a junk yard motor, you can get for nothing. M30's are "nothing special" in a old e28. You drop the 3 dimes and throw it into an e30- it changes the car.

I have the complete wiring harness out of a 745i turbo(M30), not sure if it work, if it does let me know and Ill sell it cheap.
