What do we think about this?

United Airlines and US Airways have joined American Airlines in charging passengers to check bags on certain flights.

    Discuss..

As they say all good things come to an end sometimes. I used to love it comparing to most European airlines that have been charging seemingly exponential rates for overweight luggage some years now.

When i'd fly with AA it sometimes seemed that you could just pack ur suitcase and just get on the plane without hassell at the check-in counter. Well no longer the case.

i dont check luggage... you are just asking for it to get lost or stolen.

In all seriousness, though, I've been avoiding checking baggage for a while. It's really quite a hassle, so I've moved on to getting as much out of my carry-ons as possible. I've been let onto a plane with 3 pieces of carry-on: My bag with all my stuff,
my computer bag with all the stuff that didn't fit into the first bag, and a guitar case.

Protip: usually, if you ask and have a non-halfassed reason, the airline will gate-check things for you. I've moved guitars like this and have seen people transport pretty fragile stuff in similar fashion without damage.

At some point, though, carrying all that stuff around and maneuvering it inside the plane becomes inconvenient to both you and the people around you.
