So I just found out I have cancer..

I'm prepping for radioactive iodine treatments, to start. I was amazed that I'll not be able to touch/hold my kids for a few days after it starts. I can't really do anything that involves their daily routines, or even be around them for the first few days.. I'm also scheduling a second opinion to satisfy my wife's worry. I had the biopsy done on the larynx, which sucked, big time.. waiting on those results.

Did they decide not to surgically remove it? For my mom they removed half of her thyroid and the guy I work with just had his whole thyroid removed. Both have to take a thyroid hormone drug called Armour for pretty much the rest of their life. The best thing about thyroid cancer is how easy it is to treat and the survival rates are right up their with mine if not higher.

The Dr wants to try iodine, first.. Mostly due to my having surgeries on my neck in the past (broke it in '03), and scar tissue, etc., already there. Yeah, we've discussed the Armour already.. I'll just add it to the pile of shit I already have to take for the rest of my life..
The thyroid isn't the one that bothers me; it's the larynx that I'm concerned most with, on whether it comes back benign again.

I'm glad to hear you are feeling much better, though! that's awesome.

UPDATE: PET Scan is IN!

Had my PET scan today... Guess what.. 100% Clean (as far as I can tell). I went through this bad boy from head to balls. No more glow in the dark lymph nodes. (The faint red glow you see are my main arteries.)

Fucking awesome. You're the man for handling something like this as well as you have. Great to hear the good news. This thread actually made me go get my balls checked out. I thought I had a little knot on one of them since high school but was always too scared to get it checked out (it ended up being nothing). So thank you for that also, I appreciate it.

It's freakin' awesome... but I'm not out of the woods till the Dr. says so. If I know my doctor he's probably gonna make me finish out my last 2 rounds of chemo to make sure there aren't any rouge cells floating around.

I really hope this means I get to skip radiation.

I'll let everyone know when I find out on Thursday.

Thats awesome Robert. Glad to hear its looking good for you. You starting this thread and the way it has gone I really think it has the power to help a lot of people with your attitude and the way you've acted throughout. Hope the doc doesn't see anything and it turns out good.
