odd, i wonder why they are going back to the older vietnam era? i mean dont get me wrong it looks SICK but i thought the more modern stuff was the ticket.

The WWII was sorta their bag to begin with. COD4 was the first like that from them. I am sure they will make another modern one too. I assume they just wanted to make a game of what they have proven to be good at, utilizing the newer better platform.

I am loving COD4 right now. I picked it up Monday night and have been playing it, a lot. For some reason I really don't like WWII era fps games that much.

And I think the WWII games are the shit. I like those much more than the vietnam/korean settings. I havent got into a war game since MOH on PS2, so maybe I'll pick this back up.

nice. but i ask... why another ww2 game? there are way way to many of these as is!!! i love ww2 and have read many many books about it, and am german american so have a great perspective on both sides of the war (all i need is a jap uncle:)), but its getting boring.

Here's the rationale behind a WW2 game:

This new game, Call of Duty: World at War, was developed by Treyarch studios who created Call of Duty 3. CoD4 was developed by Infinity Ward, who also did the first two Call of Duty games.

Call of Duty 3 was received as a decent war game, but had it's flaws. Considering it was squeezed into a tight development time line to hit the next gen consoles as quickly as possible, that's to be expected. Meanwhile, Infinity Ward was working on CoD4 and had a much longer time line to create a truly great game. This new Call of Duty came, again by Treyarch studios, was in development long before CoD4 ever came out, so the success of the "Modern Warfare" theme couldn't really be incorporated into their game. That being said, Treyarch have spent over 2 years working on this new one compared to the 8 months or so they spent on Call of Duty 3. Basically, that means that this new game could very well kick some major ass. Also expect the next Call of Duty game after World at War to be developed by Infinity Ward and feature the Modern Warfare theme again.
