Wow, just wow. The lack of understand of economics and how things work is amazing.

The simple fact is the environmentalists want us using anything other than oil so they will block any attempt to insure that we have secure and cheap oil. They have blocked drilling and the creation of more refineries for years. They think they can force the consumer to pay for inefficient fuels if the price of oil is high enough. And it will work. It will destroy our economy first, but it will eventually work... but none of us will be able to afford a car at that point so what does it matter?

Look at how many people buy off on that idea. It is their efforts in concert with the Dems over the last 20 years that are putting us in the pickle right now. This is no surprise. Everybody knew that once the Chinese and the Indians really became consumers of oil that the price would skyrocket. And of course OPEC artificially controlling the market makes it worse. The whole 1970's problem came from the same deal. I lived through that one, we survived, and we will survive this one too
    .
The point is, until we find something that is economically viable and safe, we won't use it. Government may have to play a roll in this, as much as I hate to say it, but it should be done through military contracts, and other real economy growing activities instead of silly grants and awards.

Really, the facts are facts. Opinion is opinion. What I am seeing in the posted articles is a bunch of opinion designed to drive consumer confidence even lower because that is what the liberals want in this election year and because they want to insure that the government is there to bail you out because you are incapable of doing it yourself. Or, at least that is what they want you to think. Go back and read some of the well thought out and fact based rebuttals earlier in this thread.

The sad thing is, we keep repeating the same mistakes. Should we look for alternatives to oil? You bet. Should that be something that "Energy Companies" as opposed to "Oil Companies" should be doing? Yes, if they want to still be around in 30 years. Oil companies have been lucky over the years and they have done a lousy job of managing that kind of R&D. It isn't easy, but sitting there fat, dumb and happy while the oil flows freely is not a good way to run a business. The point is, artificially driving up the price of gas because of irresponsible environmental concerns and the lack of foresight is just as dumb as not planning for the future. We sure as heck are not going to get to the stars on gasoline. (well, unless somebody invents Mr. Fusion)
