    Ubuntu users?

Just curious if anyone here is running Ubuntu, or a similar form of linux. I loaded it onto my laptop and have been playing around with it (without really changing anything) but, as I am not a computer guy, I'd be completely lost for things besides basic computer uses.

But, so far, I love it. It's faster, better laid out, and cooler than Windows... and everything's free. And, there's a huge community of supporters wiling to help you out that goes waay beyond the Windows help center. Fuck Windows.

I run Ubuntu on my laptop, and have for the last 2 years. It's had its ups and downs, but overall it's a very solid system. Much more stable and secure than Windows.

I still run Windows on my desktop, though. Games are fun.

I've been using it since 6.10, I'm now running 8.04 exclusively on my work laptop and desktop. I replaced Vista with it and I haven't turned back since. 8.04 has been a little buggy, but I use to pretty rough (multiple VM's, loading unneeded crap, etc), but I on the whole like it.

I'm kinda new to Ubuntu and Linux in general, so excuse the question "what are VM's??"

VM is Virtual Machine. It allows you to run more than one OS at the same time, essentially.

I started out on 7.10 (Gutsy) and I love it! It's got little quirks here and there but I would have to agree that it is more stable and they have good driver support. I've been fooling around with other distros, but I like Ubuntu because it works the first time with very little tweaking.

I run VM's and the Wine emulator for some of the apps that will only run on Windows but I am getting very comfortable with using Open Office and the other equivalent apps.

By chance, have you tried Quickbooks on WINE?

No I haven't. I use excel for most of my accounting (well now its the open office version) but if QB has a similar file structure with the main .exe file and the .DLL's I imagine that it would probably work.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 here at work after a failed test run with Fedora 9.

I've only been on it a month or so but I've become much happier with it over that time. I recently worked out my major issue with it (unable to access the web administration interface of our email server) and ditched my backup Windows box. :)
