Same here, but round trip from MD. I may leave as early as Wednesday next week. :)

I'm planning to stop at Niagara Falls, down the Canadian side of Erie to Detroit, ferry across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee, hoof it to Minneapolis and Grand Forks where I have family, then take a day to see the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and the Crazy Horse memorial. From there trek to Yellowstone for a while and then on to Boise to see my sister. Down through Reno/Tahoe, where I may meet up with my wife who wants to fly instead of drive, and into Wine Country, Sausalito, San Francisco, and Monterery. Hole up with my old friend in Cuppertino for a day then hit Yosemite. Take the east side south to Death Valley and across the desert to Las Vegas. finally see Hoover Dam, but turn back and go north to Utah into Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, and Monument Valley for a day or three. Take a nice breather in Pueblo or Santa Fe (haven't decided yet) then trek east for Memphis to see Graceland and Beale Street (eating well along the way in Texas and Oklahoma). Dogleg up through Nashville for Bowling Green and see how Corvette's are put together then dogleg back to waste a day on the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherahola before stopping in Greer, SC for the BMW factory. From there I may tie the whole trip up with an end to end run of Skyline Drive through the Blue Ridges and then park it back home with an extra 6 or 7 K on the ticker and zillions of photos.

I might try to buy one of those GoPro Hero cameras. It can be set up to take a picture every five seconds that I could stitch together as a round trip video.

    Yes, I am insane.

                NICE!

I was literally JUST there at the beginning of this month...I took about 700 pictures while I was there for a day and a half.

It truly is an amazing place. If you live in CA or any surrounding state and have not been there, then you suck.

pictures of yosemite do not do it justice
it is awe inspiring to be there in person

we hiked up half dome in early spring about 30yrs ago. to get to the top we had to straddle the cables that are used in the summer to provide a walkway, but in the early spring are just laying against the rock. we spent the night on top, which is against park rules, but is was incredible. we played flashlight morse code with the campers on the valley floor. there is a little ledge you can sit on with your feet hanging off, and when you look between your knees its about 2000ft straight down. sounds freaky but if you've ever climbed, the "pull" of heights like the ledge on half dome go away after a while and you can jist sit there with no drama.

you gotta go there before you die

Yosemite is awesome! Anyone that goes has to take a day and hike Half Dome. Its about 18 or so miles and takes a full day but the view from the top and the feeling of your feet dangling 4700 feet above the valley floor is unbeatable!!

Wow it was awesome! Left sacramento at around 8am and got back at around 11pm... didn't hike the half dome as it's just not enough time to do in 1 day, but got really close to one of the water falls...great place. Will deff. have to come back again for a hike.

don't fool yourself. besides the hippies in SF the crooks in Sac and the hollywood wannabies in LA, the rest of california is fantastic!

watching the sunrise from the top of half dome is by far one of the most beautiful sights i've ever seen!

Been there once myself and only had a day,, could easily spend a week there. Pics look great, but there is now way it can capture the magnitude of the valley. Anyone who has been there knows.

I will keep this in mind, just got back from Great Falls, MT a few weeks ago. We'll probably go back next year.

Drove through the Lewis & Clark forest and went through Yellowstone on the way back.

                                Beautiful country up there.

                                Nice pics, OP.
