(csc^2)x = 4

This equals

1+(cot^2)x = 4
(cot^2)x = 3


Then what?

Here's somethin that may help:

cot(x) = 1 / tan(x)

SO

cot^2(x) = 1 / tan^2(x)

Clarified with Ti-89! :)


Going a step further:

1 / tan^2(x) = 3
tan^2(x) = 1/3
tan(x) = 1/sqrt(3)
NOTE: 1/sqrt(3) == sqrt(3)/3
SO:
X = Pi/6

There are many web sites where you can punch in a trig equation and get the answers... that's how i passed the trig series back in the day.

For what class?

Back when I was still in calc, I found it very, very helpful to have most of the trig identities memorized. Makes you much faster with homework and on tests. I had many memorized, but I've forgotten most of them by now.
