Do not leave your GPS mount on windshield

Came out of my GF house and I See my car door open and I'm like wtf? So I got in it and the fuckers cleaned it out. Clothes, CDs, everything. Then I think oh shit my GPS, look at the glove box and its snapped. I had the little mount suction cupped to the window. They saw that and said Gold mine. They snagged my registration, reciepts, cell charger that isn't even mine, GUM?, all my CDs, even the one OUT OF the radio.

She lives in a yuppie ass town so it's not like I really HAVE to lock my doors anyway but now I certianly will. I'm going to file a report tomorrow at the 5.0 station. Will insurance cover the GPS or am I fucked?

Ha you're an asshole. She wants to buy me a new GPS though so I can't complain.

Glad they didn't steal mine, I'd have to take my back up off of fleaBay.

Good, I don't really care. It's a 92 Nissan Maxima SE that I fucking hate. I'll leave the spare key in it for them too.

Insurance probably won't cover it if there was no damage to the car.

IF there was damage then they'd pay for things above your deductable and only a prorated amount based on the value given to them from your receipts. You did keep all your receipts for every stick of gum, CD and shirt right? Oh, you didn't? Guess you are screwed.
              Ask me how I know.

You have to call in and have them add things like that. Good luck though.

oh yeah, and if they find out there was no forced entry then you might be screwed.

ow I know: My key fob went out and the doors didn't always lock. Well, I came out of the gym one night to find all my stuff gone and nothing broken or forced. Doors were unlocked and they got my computer, bags, multitool, Grad school books, etc etc. No help from insurance. If i knew what a-holes they were going to be I'd have busted a window myself and then piggybacked everything else onto it.

doesn't matter if there was forced entry, but things that arn't bolted down are generally not covered. it should all be covered on your girlfriends house insurance if it was parked on her property though.

My homeowners covered my hockey equipment when someone decided to take it out of the back of my pickup while I was at the convenience store. This was quite a few years ago but I remember my agent saying something about anything thats not mounted to the vehicle is considered to be in transit and covered...

Damn that sucks. I heard stories like this several times before so I always take my mount off and wipe the windshield because the suction cup leaves marks. I'd hate for my E30 to be broken into.

Sidenote: My Garmin Nuvi 260's text to speech voice is GLaDOS from Portal. Fuckin' geektastic.

yeah, depends on what your homeowner's insurance deductible is too. If it's the same as the stolen stuff then....
Also depends on who does the insuring sometimes.

Along the same lines... I'm annoyed when i see people with the gps systems mounted to the windshield in the worst places possible. I seem to only see them now dead center, driver side, and pretty high up in all the windshields. I mean, is it that hard to look over to a safe spot rather than have some big obstruction in the middle of your field of view every second? People are idiots.

This is kind of a no brainer, but its only once this happens is it so. My old man did exactly the same thing, took the unit inside and left the mount. Suprise suprise, the car is broken into overnight.
