only a redneck would put that much effort into using his grill to heat shit.

He is using a LOT of propane to heat up his tiny ass pool. That is one of those things that at first its $250 to make but as you use it the price goes way up! As compared to the couple thousand dollar heaters that are much more efficient that will eventually pay for themselves as to what he did or just an older heater.

I give him an A+ for being retardedly cheap.

*EDIT* If he used a coal grille...... MAYBE it would be better since you're not wasting propane.

        Here is the mastermind.

A regular pool heater has a safety switch that prevents the water temperature leaving the heater from rising over something like 135 degrees. With that thing you could get the grill up to 600 degrees and it would probably heat the pool pretty quickly (as long as you weren't in it at the time). Of course most people use the heater to heat up the spa (which he doesn't have) and you couldn't use his idea for that.

A pool heater works in about the same way though (with gas burners beneath a copper manifold).

I read a little bit more and they say they keep the temperature down to prevent the pipes from bursting and scalding someone. I would not recommend that anyone build one of these at home, but I'll say that I sell 400K BTU pool heaters for about $2,600 installed.

I think the company I work for sells them for about that maybe a bit lower. But I definetly wouldn't want to clean his pool and deal with that thing.
