eBay issue: Wheels shipping from USA > Australia

Please leave opinions of sportmax out of this thread.

I recently won an Auction for a set of Sportmax wheels. The Price was $309.99US for
"• Four (4) LIMITED EDITION GOLD Wheels - Brand New in Box
    • Four (4) XXR Logo Centercaps"

As you can see in the screen shot below, Shipping was clearly displayed as "Free" to Australia.

I sent my payment of $309.99 via paypal, on the ebay system. In check out, shipping was displayed as "free" to Australia.

Then I get an e-mail as follows:

    "
Mr. Roberton, We have received your payment for the XXR 16x8 Gold wheels that you ordered on ebay. Shipping to Australia is $379. Please send the shipping payment of $379 via paypal to sales@nlmotoring.com and we will get your wheels shipped out today.

    "

    I'm like WTF? heeelllll no...
    I sent this reply:

    "
    Mr. Covert,
Regarding item number #300237757266, as you can see in the attached image, the Auction clearly states "Free USPS Priority Mail InternationalTM Service to Australia". No-where does it say I will incur shipping fee of the sum of $379.00. In the Shipping and Handling category at the bottom of the auction, It again clearly states, under the option "Australia" - "Free" Shipping.
I understand this may have been a mistake on your part, and unless you intend to ship the wheels free of charge as advertised, I am willing to accept a full refund of $309.99US, however I will not be paying an additional $379.00.
I would like this sorted out as soon as possible, so please reply to this e-mail swiftly and let me know where you stand.

Thankyou for your assistance in this matter.
    James Roberton"

So now I'm waiting for a reply. Basically I just want my money back, I very much doubt they will admit error and send the wheels free of charge.

If they Refuse to refund my money, What can I do?
There is no way I'm paying ~$690.00 for a set of 501's.

Some thing tells me that you knew that deal was a little too good to be true.

If they don't refund you your money, then you'll have to fine a claim with ebay, and report them for a bait and switch/inaccurate listing. As far as ebay and paypal know - you've paid exactly what is needed to be paid, and it's waiting on a tracking number from the seller. You have a very good case.

Thankyou. I should have known it'd be too good to be true... lol
Anyway, what you've said has boosted my confidence, and calmed me down some. I stared panicking and remembering all these eBay horror stories when I got his e-mail!

I have noticed a lot of times when looking at overseas based ebay's that if the ebayer wants to provide free shipping in their continent they can tick free shipping. When your logged onto ebay internationally, ebay tries to work out rough shipping price somtimes based on your postcode. As you can imagine, ebay has a fit when this happens and shops it as being to australia. I always ask for shipping prices to australia.

In all honesty you should have know it was going to be a pain in the ass when you looked at them.

But good luck and hope that you get your wheels shipped to australia for a combined price of less than the shipping price.

On another note. i got some wheels shipped to me from 18racing (slipstreams) and shipping was $200aus.

Start claims now without giving the seller any idea you are going to do so. If they have any idea you will file a claim, they will clear their account out and you would be awarded the win but no funds could be allocated to you since their account is empty. If you blind side them with the claim you have a better chance at catching them with enough money in their account for you to receive a refund. I would not wait to hear back from them period. Start that claim ASAP. When you report it you will be able to explain why you are starting a claim by saying the bait and switch was pulled on you with the shipping. Also SAVE all emails and information regarding this transaction for proof to be provided as needed.

                Good Luck....

I agree. Ebay as well as paypal will be on your side. Not his, Ive had the same thing happen to me when i was selling some camera equipment. i said free shipping. But i forgot to check US only. I sucked it up and paid shipping to Romania.

Just thought I'd cap this off.

I got an e-mail back from the guy saying thankyou for understanding, we have refunded the full sum straight away bla bla bla... Basically admitting fault.

Now, on ebay/e-mail/and paypal it shows that the payment has been refunded in full. But where has it gone? It's not in my account, is it possible to go straight back onto the credit card? I paid for it on credit card via paypal...

It is as easy as a phone call to find out.

It takes 3 hours to fully come out of your account, but a ridiculous amount of time to go back. Aka 3-10 business days probably.
