How dare you send our citizens back to us

"How dare you send our citizens back to us"
    Just how pathetic is Mexico?
    Christopher Cook
    August 04, 2008

You can add legislators from the Mexican state of Sonora to the people whose sense of irony has been surgically removed at birth. It didn't make very big news when it happened (two weeks ago), but for those who missed it, it's a worthy showcase for chutzpah at its finest. And it's a tragic indication of just how absurdly pathetic our neighbor to the south really is:

A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.

At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money.
What? They are returning to their hometowns, for goodness' sake. They don't want people to return to their hometowns? People aren't welcome in their hometowns?

Oh, and they're coming home broke. What are we in America to do, send out an announcement that people planning to self-deport should stop by city hall for a little care package on the way out? Maybe a little taxpayer money to tide them over until the ever-so vibrant and healthy Mexican economy finds them jobs. Oh no, wait...nevermind.

And it gets worse, with this stunning admission:

"Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems" it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs, she said. (emphasis added)
Think about that. Not only can the economy of Sonora not handle the return of its native sons and daughters, it's not even able to support the people who remained behind without the remittances of the people working in Arizona. They're actually saying to their native sons and daughters...

We cannot handle your return, and we need you to go back to another country and work so you can send money back home to support the unemployed people you left behind.

Again, one has to say, what? Mexico cannot support its own people, so many leave...and the ones who stay behind cannot survive without their remittances? What are they doing all day?

Mexico is a huge country. Much of it is gorgeous. It has incredible natural resources. With all of its benefits and blessings, how could it be this pathetic?

I suppose one could argue that if a bunch of people all returned to a small American town within a short period, the town might have to do a bit of scrambling. But in America, it would probably mean more money into the tax base; increased property values; a newer, more vibrant town life; new businesses opening up; new ideas...more marriages...old friends reuniting.

In other words, most American towns would probably find a way to make the return of their native sons and daughters a good and happy thing.

When you say your prayers tonight, remember to thank God for America.
Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

Try living in Arizona, let alone Tucson...Since the new law I see a lot out of work illegals and a lot of them leaving back for Mexico or Texas.

^ probably not as many as you'd think as they regularly (around here in CO atleast) pack as many people and families into as few of houses as possible. send their kids to public schools, which means under funding for the number of students (public schools are commonly funded with housing taxes which anticipate MAYBE 6 kids from one household, not 15.)

that new law is AWESOME!! i pray for the day that a similar law is mandated throughout the entire country.

if it is simply impossible to be productive in the climate of mexico and that is their excuse to be not helping themselves to a better life upon their own shoulders instead of ridding the coat tails of america, then that's their problem. in all honesty, mexico has NO EXCUSE for their economy's situation. they benefit from having a practically open border with one of the globe's strongest economies. there is no reason to not be able to make money IN MEXICO. ...if it's too damn hot and all the workers just want to take siestas all day long, then work at night, if that's too hot, then damn, think about PERMANETLY RELOCATING and becoming an OFFICAL AMERICAN CITIZEN.

HELL YES. this is some of the best news about recent laws i have heard in YEARS.

i live in AZ. with the new law you must run each new hires "paper" through a national data base. we have personally sent 3 back to Mexico with serriptitious papers.

the new law has changed the face of many low paying jobs.

reading this made my day though!

That should also apply to the shrewd businessmen at WalMart and all superstores that in order to squeeze every last dime out of people, hire these illegals. So that we can get our 30 Tshirts for $2. But that doesnt make really good news.

Wait, you're saying the illegal alien problem is solving itself because of collapsing economy?

True. The only reason we have such a huge drug trade is because their is such a huge demand for drugs. Without demand, the drug trade would cease to be because no one would buy them.

You will never be able to stop the flow of illegal immigrants if they still have a reason to come here. They will always find a way to get what they want. People will do just about anything to try and make their lives better for themselves and their families. The only way you can stop them is to remove their reason for crossing the border in the first place (i.e. not a sigle US company ever hires an illegal, and that's pretty much impossible)
