At least you're not getting "pride" in kanji or some shit

    The five tattoo types:

    Kanji
    "tribal" designs
    Irish/celtic knots/crosses
    rockabilly (swallows, brass knuckles)
    Norse, metal, skulls, etc.

there are lower forms, but I don't feel like listing them
Not that I care, of course.

Why, because it's not what you are? Please explain your reasoning as to why it's ridiculous. I'm not one of these dickheads that is going to demonize people for doing what they want, nor am I going to shove what I believe down anyone's throat. And I will defend to the end anyone's right to believe whatever they want, whether I agree with it or not. But I won't stand by while someone tells me it's ridiculous to claim and take pride in what I believe in.

People declare that they're Christian, republican, democrat, gay, environmentalists, doctors, teachers, athletes, etc. How is this any different? In a society and a world that glorifies drug use and rampant alcohol consumption, I think it's incredibly refreshing to be able to identify those who have decided not to be a part of it.

Farbin, you can choose to be straight-edge at any time. You don't have to start when you're a little kid. I drank for a while, but I've never smoked or done a single drug in my entire life. And you don't have to be vegan, but a lot of straightedge people are. It just kind of goes along with the ideal of being pure.

No one asked you to get started on "the whole straight edge thing".

it is what we call "attention whoring"

which really isn't such a bad thing. I'd probably want a tattoo if I were a vegan, so at least I'd get laid for my troubles.

(and red wine is hella good for you lol)

As to the "declaring thing" Like I said before the kids I've been around are searching for an identity.

Kid's do that... and from the extremes these kids come from it's a mild crisis compared to what it could be.

Edit: I may be preaching to the wrong chorus here.

Having an identity was a huge part of what made it so important to me when I was in high school. I always felt like some kind of sheltered loser because everyone else I knew smoked weed, was always getting wasted on the weekends, drinking and getting busted all the time, and I just never wanted to. After I started getting into hardcore and going to shows, I found out about straightedge, started to learn more about it, and all of a sudden, something clicked in my head and I realized, "holy shit, that's ME!" I had no idea there were so many people that had the same view of drugs and alcohol as I did, and when I found out that there was, I finally didn't feel like such a loser anymore.

I see people walking around every day, wearing shirts with pot leaves on them, hats that say 420 or Corona, wearing Guiness hoodies or that have Jagermeister lanyards on their keys, even people with pot leaf or beer-brand tattoos. They're declaring that they drink or smoke weed, how is having a t-shirt or a tattoo that says straightedge ANY different?

When really, you were a sheltered loser because you didn't know about the hardcore lifestyle. Man, you just can't get ahead in this world!

                                this is puzzling to me

"I had no idea there were so many people that had the same view of drugs and alcohol as I did, and when I found out that there was, I finally didn't feel like such a loser anymore."

what makes us feel like losers for not getting wrecked out of our minds?
im totally straight but i had my days as a youth. this isnt a lot different from the ghetto culture where its hip to be a fucking uneducated piece of shit that cant speak fluently. it sure would be nice to see a world where educated kids who choose to not do drugs and live a good life be considered cool. i have no problems with drinking in fact i have no problems with moderation in anything. this world is just fucked up
