Its purpose is to smash atomic particles together and capture the results. It is sensitive enough to detect a possible graviton (proving that string theory might be right in being the "theory of everything"), it can also possible prove/disprove what dark matter might be.. [/quote]

It will not, or can not produce a black hole. I defiantly can not produce a fusion re-action or fission explosion.. We're talking about 2 -3 atomic particles at a time here people...

The world of physics on both the astrophysics and quantum mechanics sides are about to get really, really, really freaking cool!! This machine will be able to possibly unlock the trade secrets of the universe.. I can't wait!

    That's what I thought.

Well from my understanding is that it could create mini black holes.

"Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) on the grounds that high-energy particle collisions performed in the LHC might produce dangerous phenomena, including micro black holes, strangelets, vacuum bubbles and magnetic monopoles."

I still don't get what it does, something about Higgs Bosson Physics element.

I don't know why I'm so excited about that thing. I can't wait to see what things come of it. Hopefully it doesn't eat the universe!

Some Higgs Boson shit? So like 10billion dollars to discover a missing link in physics?

  • CERN announces start-up date for Large Hadron Collider

Geneva, 7 August 2008. CERN has today announced that the first attempt to circulate a beam in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be made on 10 September. This news comes as the cool down phase of commissioning CERN’s new particle accelerator reaches a successful conclusion.
