My dissertation was largely about waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles bands who have a large amount of fans who seem to think the band is metal. Ex: Slipknot.

Furthermore, most of the shit trying to be passed off as metal these days simply is not metal.

Up until a couple of weeks ago they had one of the best out there, Charlie Zeleny. He plays with Blotted Science and tours with Dream Theater's keyboardist now, along with his own session stuff.

I've heard of one of those. I haven't been paying much attention to new metal. Sometimes I'll find something I like, like Dark Fortress.

I like Darkthrone's new crust punk stuff. But I like crust punk.

you need to check out those bands, they are better than a lot of the original late 80s/early 90s DM and BM.

I personally hate scream-core bands too. Thats why I love power metal, Helloween for instance. The first singer is an insanely good singer who can hit amazing highs and still sound satanic for other versus, He now sings for Gamma Ray and the new helloween singer is still really good. Testament is awesome but thats about my limit on the mumbling growling style of singing. When I hear bands that are all "Hardcore" I just try to listen to the guitar and drums because the vocals are a fucking joke.

My studies have shown that 95% + 4.9 of metal with clean vocals are in fact, gay. Notable exceptions are King Diamond and the talking part at the beginning of At The Gates' Slaughter of the Soul.
