An 18-year-old Wenham resident known as a bright student and gifted athlete was less than two miles from home Sunday night when the BMW he was driving slammed into a tree, killing him and injuring his friend, police said.
Gabriel Pacione was behind the wheel of his 1988 BMW at about 11:50 p.m. when the car crashed into a tree on Grapevine Road, Wenham police said. Pacione’s passenger, Marcus Hanna, 18, of South Hamilton was injured and taken to Beverly Hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.

Pacione, who was planning to attend Dartmouth College in the fall, was a “strong academic student and gifted athlete,” according to a statement from Hamilton-Wenham Superintendent Marinel McGrath.
Principal Robert Krol said Pacione was a popular student and talented runner who took part in sculpture and theater programs, and worked as a day camp counselor in the summer.
“I can say it was a pleasure to see Gabe run like the wind and to be with his fellow students,” Krol said in a statement. “He had a genuine smile which was contagious to all.”
Counselors will be available for students today, he said.
The crash occurred less than 2 miles from Pacione’s home on Larch Row, according to police.
Police and firefighters who arrived at 55 Grapevine Road found the BMW resting on its side against a tree.
A message left yesterday at the Pacione family house was not returned.

If they find out that kid was drunk, I would like to reserve a right to be as much of an ass as I can possibly be and flame that kid.

You don't just hit a tree. You don't exactly slide off the road and flip in a residential neighborhood. Something had to gone really wrong, or someone fucked up. Like I said, more details are needed, until then anything goes. Poor kid, poor friend, poor e30.

Worst of all poor parents.

my buddy died in his e30 cabrio a year and change ago. had a seizure while driving (hit by a car when he was on his bicycle in italy 2 years prior, spent a while in a coma but no signs of seizure) froze with the gas pedal to the floor and hit a jersey barrier at like 90
