    Any Golfers?

I don't want to hijack the places to live in WA thread... so I'll make this.

Anyone one on here an avid golfer or play much when they can? best courses you've played? Handicap? College ball?

Figured there weren't many of you who played... but who knows...

    best courses in order
    Pebble Beach, Monterrey Calif
    Pacific Dunes, Bandon Oregon
The Old Course, St. Andrews Scotland
    Chambers Bay, Tacoma WA
8.6 index as of 12 months ago but play very little now, too many cars to work on and I've decided to try to get good at tennis
no college or HS golf, just a self taught hack

I've played Pacific (all the courses there, actually) and Chambers as well. We had Big 10/Pac10 there last year and that course is tough, real tough.

I guess I should have specified since we're all answering in this order:

      Best Courses:
      Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Penn
      The Tradition, La Quinta, California
      Pacific Dunes, Bandon, Oregon
Pronghorn Golf Club (Both courses), Bend, Oregon

Current index is a +1.3, but that's going to fall to a scratch here with how little I've been playing.

        that's damn good golf son!

my son and his friend had crazy the caddy at Bandon Dunes. he kept them loose and my son shot 73, his buddy 74

the US Open at Chambers will be the longest open in history, 7700+ yds
a real test if the weather is up
we look right at it from across the water on Fox Island where we live

Good numbers out there at Bandon!

Yeah it was about 7590 when I played chambers... BIG golf course. Such a cool setting there though with the sound, trains, and ruins. very cool place.

As I said in the other thread, I play quite a bit. Sadly, I go to school in a podunk town, so I either play at the $20/round course or the $150/round course that's 30 minutes away. Students pay $200 for a quarter of golf at the shitty course, so I do that. My friends and I golf quite a bit. You'd think from how much I play that I'd be pretty good, but I'm not. The best I've ever shot is a 79. I'm normally around 83-88. I don't record my scores, so I have no handicap.

And the best course I've ever played is Chambers. Other than that it's normally just the shitty course here at school or in the Tacoma area with my friend. I don't play very nice courses. I imagine when I get out of school I will be able to play at some better courses, but it just hasn't happened.

Also, I've just gotten rid of a nasty little snap hook, and I've been playing better.

I am ranked 1 on the Lewis & Clark College golf team in Portland (which is not saying much). I am probably around a 7 or 8 handicap.

We practice at Oregon Golf Club, which is a pretty nice course, but Pumpkin Ridge is probably my favorite course. I also like Tokatee and Aspen Lakes where we have played some of our conference championships. Fircrest in Tacoma has the best greens I have played on. Unfortunately I haven't played at any of those high-end courses that have been mentioned here, but maybe some day.

With all of this said, I have been spoiled with free golf and free Pro-V1s that I basically refuse to spend money on golf at this point in my life. I don't have a lot of time or money to be playing in my free time, and there are other things I would rather spend money on.

Hey it's still college ball. We got so much free stuff at Oregon it's rediculous... very well taken care of. I'm just now having to pay for golf and I'm like, "wtf?? wasn't all of this free?":) And fortunately, I didn't pay to play any of the courses I mentioned. I played Merion in the US Am, and I played chambers in a college event.

Doesn't hurt that my former roomate and close friend is a PGA teaching professional; makes golf a lot cheaper.

Oregon Am is at bandon next year... I think I'm going to have to take that time off work and use my exemption regardless of how I've been playing. 4 rounds at bandon for 100 bucks is unbeatable.

I was going to make this thread like a week ago. Great idea!!!

La Quinta is a great place...really fun. I haven't played for the past 6 months and was just able to get back out there.

When I was playing a bunch my handicap got down to a 2.5 or so. I didn't make the Loyola Marymount team...they had one walk on spot and it was handed to another dick (deservedly though, he was very good).

I get a bunch of shit courses down here or they're expensive as hell (Trump, malibu, etc). I'm a poor just out of college student, so that doesn't work out so well. I get stuck playing rancho park haha

I am by no means any good compared to probably most people in this thread, but I play when I can for fun with my bro. Which happens to not happen as often as I'd like.

hey, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I've played a few nice courses, bit nothing spectacular, and not consistently. I play the shitty course because it's cheap, close and it's golf. I just like to play to get away from work, school and the woman.
