    WTF, LEO stoplight dragraces?!?

So, tonight I was minding my own business, driving like a maniac, delivering pizza. I come to a light and am first in line. I take off, and leave everyone behind, no biggie. Then I notice the classic F&F light pattern of cars weaving between other cars. Next thing I know, I have two cars coming my way. I get in the slow lane, and they FLY past me. I was probably going maybe 15 over-ish? (in a 50.) They pass by me, and they are both the same car: bronzit dodge stratus', tinted, with sequential license plates. (?) SNK 8837 and 8838. I'm interested, so I speed up (more) to try and check them out. My Passport is quiet. They take off even faster, and get stopped at the next light. I slow down and time the light just right to fly past them. (still in the slow lane) I hear the lead one stomp on it, and he takes off. He gets about one car length ahead of me, and then it happens.

Blue light bar goes off in the top of the rear window for about a second. My heart stopped. Right foot retracted to my groin, and off they go. I'm expecting him to pull in front of me, and the rear guy to pull behind me to bookend me in, but they maintain their train. My heart resumes its' job.

Next light, the one I have to turn on to get to the peetsa shop, and there's a ORANGE Cobra Mustang with a plate 2SLO USUX or something like that. Of course he burns out to dragrace them too. I watched to see if he was going to get blue lights, but didn't see them.

Anyone ever see anything like that? (Not the mustang, they hand them out to Marines in bootcamp now)

Are you saying one of the stratus had lights? Like a whole bar, or just in the top of the passengers side. I saw an intrepid the other day that had a light up there. It was unmarked.. but it was pretty weird. My friend had a state trooper pull up next to him and flash his lights and then just keep on driving on the highway. Of course he wasn't street racing but he was doing like 85 in a 65, the state trooper could've been off duty, Or just didn't feel like dealing with it. Maybe it was just a mod that he had?

no they have cars like that around. this is pretty common. look like tricked out domestic cars that are performance oriented - and then they light up like christmas trees when they get a customer.

doubtful they were "bait" cars, rather they were just detectives/investigative units heading to something, and decided to have a laugh at your expense.

In larger cities in NC, I have heard of cars being confiscated from their street racing owners and then used by by SHP's and State Troopers. But, I doubt many cities in NC have a "bait and switch" program.

I'm pretty sure "baiting" is illegal, which might be why he flashed them, just to warn you even though he couldn't do anything. But it also could very well be just someone who put it in his car, a surprising amount of people do that.
