How much did your 401K crap out today? 9/15/08

I'm down 4.06% across my asset distribution(averaged it out).

I really think I might just pull out & invest in more precious metals -- Armalite, Colt, SIG, ----and a crapload of brass.

I know keeping a cooler head would be the most wise, but I'm just saying....

----So how bad did you do (no $$$ figures - just % loss)?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

I can't even access my account online. Must be because they just filed for Chapter 11.

    jk

Probably around the same. I just looked up the funds that I am in on Google Finance, and they're mostly between -3.9 to 5.6(!) percent down, I have around 25% in cash (Money Market) right now.

Yeah, I hear you ldsbeaker. I ain't retiring for a damn long time, so I will probably move that 25% cash so that it has the possibility of doing some work for me. :D

Fred - I like your perspective, I'll have to keep reminding myself that I'm as far away 'till retirement as you, so ride out the bumps.

Sadly, I killed myself putting the money in - no extra real major cash lumps not already in, since I was cost averaging my shares down with the last 18 months of off-peak share costs. Hope my mutual funds don't hold any/many major dogs in their portfolios.

Yeah, my employee sponsored retirement is just a portfolio filled with dogs. :( I think the SEC investigated one of the funds, and as such, the party was over and overnight it devalued like 35%. Hahahaha. Good thing I didn't have much money in it!

why bother checking on days like today? none of us are retiring for another 30 years, so all it does is raise your blood pressure and give you diarrhea.

if anything, now's a good time to up your percentage if youre not maxed out already

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Follow your head, not your fear. Selling low only turns the perceived diminished value into an actual loss.

Me? I'm buying like it's a back to school sale.

I'm down 3.71% in my Roth. Not too bad I guess. It will go back up and I wont be touching it for 35 years anyways.

That's exactly what I did. Now is not the time to get out.

Asking on this forum is like asking how to do a clutch job on a financial website forum, don't you think?

Just saying, not that there aren't a few people wise in the world of money here, just that I'd highly scrutinize any info you get anywhere.

If you aren't in some mutual funds, maybe that's a better place to be. IDK at all, I pay a guy to do all that for me. Call me dumb, but that's some of the best money I spend. Screw being your own financial manager, unless you REALLY know the markets. I don't, I can say it all day long.

My mutuals saved my butt, actually had a small increase in one - but my high risk, main cash cow mutual fund stayed fairly solid.

My stocks (most) were what bit my butt - Oh well, like we said before - not retiring for a few decades anyhow.

And it's my fault I'm in mutual funds & stocks, if I HAD to have steady growth I should be in CD's & bonds for the non-volatility.

If you want good stocks, pick stuff that's like a vice - My Coke stocks had a slim increase.

If this keeps up, I'm going to move some money into alchohol stocks - nothing like bad news to make a guy swig a little booze. Seriously.
