    Traveled to Alaska pics included.

Well I know some of you guys have noticed that I have not posted my conservative views in some time and that's because I spent some time in the woods. I was lucky enough to take some time off and travel from Miami to Anchorage Alaska and ventured out for 5 days exploring the 49th state in our union. It was certainly an adventure.

What I did see was a country that is as wild as it gets. Seeing such things as Bald Eagles picking salmon out of a running steam and eating as he pleased. Wild bear running across the roads and Wild Moose just sitting around. My trip was to visit my brother and his newly married wife. And to take advantage of a place to stay and a personal tour guide. We ate at all the local places and enjoyed some of the best beers ever tasted.

Anchorage was more than I expected. I expected a more Wild West/Billy the Kid atmosphere but it was just like any other city. The further out you go the more rustic it got. For all that is gun friendly Alaska is an open carry state. It was cool to walk into a store or walk down the street packing on your side. Yes, there are many local drunks in town and some were quite funny. I even saw a drug deal go down. But for the most part Alaska is amazing. Anyone in the PNW that is that close and enjoys the outdoors as much as I do, I highly recommend this. Its about a 3 hour trip out of Seattle. The thing I saw the food was a bit on the high side. I tried to eat much of the local foods, such as moose, elk, reindeer, and salmon. Prices ranged from $15 to $50 per person not including beer.

There is a huge Hippie sub culture as well. A non conformist state, that's for sure. Even went though the town of Wasilla AK on the way to Hachers Pass. Wasilla was much bigger than they make it out on tv. Though I did not see Palin there was both pro and anti propaganda everywhere. We rented a Ford Edge AWD and I must say I was impressed with the vehicle. It did a trail ride in about a foot deep snow, that most would not venture. That was though the pass.

Well anyway here are some of the pictures that I have uploaded. Thought Id share!

my two brothers... left, and center... me to the right. Center Bother lives in Alaska!

The Ford Edge AWD as it made the treck up Hachers Pass. About 3k elevation change in 15 miles or so.

An Old Gold Mine at the top of Hachers Pass.

Day after moose season.... go figure!

THEY even had POLAR RICE! The Ford Edge was able to out pull him though traffic! Good times!

Beautiful pics, makes me want to go back. Did you eat at Simon and Seaforts? That's my favorite place to eat in the world. I'm not lying or exaggerating.

I only saw 2 E30s the entire trip. One was a 318 that the whole left side was ripped and a red E30 at the gas station that was mangled as well. Subaru was the car of choice with the locals. About one out of every 4 cars was some outback or wrx. Personal license plates are almost on every car. It was rare not to see someone with a personal license plate.

Nice pics man. I was just in AK Too. Anchorage is ok if you stay out of the tourist traps. Next trip up ask your brother about the Moose's Tooth (pizza) and The Great Alaskan Bush Company.

We were at the Moose's tooth and the Brew House. The Alaskan IPA is a wonderful beer. Denali is about 200 miles north of Anchorage and we got there after the 15th so it was closed. The weather was pretty good though you could not see Denali from Anchorage. Even from Flat top. We are currently seeking property up in the Girdwood, Hope area. And on the back side of the Hachers Pass.

The two things that I did not get to see was Denali and the Northern Lights. We hiked to Exit Glacier one day. Ill have to post pics of that Gigantic Ice Cube.

I have a piece of land just outside of Talkeetna. Still have not been to it. This last trip we tried to take the trail in but the bears were in the way. We got about halfway and there was a big ass brown bear that was sitting in the middle of the trail and would not move. I with with my trusty shotgun (Sarah) in hand decided that I was in the bears house and that it was time to turn around before I was mauled.

The Tooth is awesome and the last time I was there they had the hottest chicks working there.

I took 2 weeks in Fairbanks about 10 years ago as a h.s. senior trip. I had a great time. Everywhere between Valdez and the Artic Circle.
