The greed of some of the people on wall street will be their ruin, and let honest firms step up to the plate and be handled. The markets can work efficiently. People need to let the forces do what it is that they do. Period.
BUT - everyone thinks that the government must be the answer to their problems... so we're fucked either way.
Americans are spoiled brats. Babying them won't help a damned thing. There's plenty of drugged out Brits on the DOLE across the pond if you want to see a good reason why handouts are a bad idea.
Those 18 year olds don't need a prize for being capable of breathing. They need to realize prices fluctuate, emerging markets want food and oil, and that they won't always get their way or what they want without working for it.

Most people don't say "we're all going to die anyway" and the go about living their life like that. If that were the case, society would be a SERIOUS mess (far worse than it is today).
I just think that is off-base to suggest that society as a whole operates that way. There is something inside most people to strive for stuff, to want stuff, to do well, etc. You may not be totally wrong about some of the things you said, but people in general don't operate on a "fuck it i'm going to die" system. This starts to turn the conversation into philosophy, or behavioral economics/finance and that starts us down a deep hole.PNW Crew

yeah i see what youre saying, but what i ment by my statement was that us humans have created a VERY dangerous society. and in a sence we have begun to devolve. we lack the basic instincts to survive. instead of striving for what we need to survive most of us strive for stuff that we want. our wasteful consumerism is the life blood of our economy, but adversly its also the down fall of our planet and species. by were all gonna die anyways i mean live life have fun cause tomorrow IS NOT promised to anyone.Originally posted by FerdinandI carry a cheap pressure gauge in my glovebox with which to manually check my tire pressures, but I keep forgetting that in the USA glovebox space is sacred as it is reserved exclusively for the purpose of storing handguns.

The last few posts remind me of a little song...
'Cause life is a game that no one wins
But you deserve a head start, the way you're life's goin'
So throw in the towel, 'cause your life ain't shit,
Now take the towel and hang yourself with it!
Life's short and hard, like bodybuilding elf,
So save the planet, and kill yourself!
If you're feelin' down and out with what your life is all about
Then lift your head up high, and blow your brains out!

Then I had a kid, and realized that my family was the most important thing in the world, and nothing was more terrifying than the idea of losing my job and not being able to give them everything they need. Someday when you grow up, you'll realize that, too.
