    Xb0x Warranty

So last year I had the 3 red rings of light and got it repaired free under their "we fucked up" warranty. Recently my xbox's network card got fried somehow I think an electrical storm, and yes I keep it on a surge protector. So granted I got a brand new xbox returned to me when I had it repaired last I thought I had new 1 year warranty atleast! But as I found out today your OLD xbox's warranty is carried over onto the new one...so basically they are saying I got a brand new xbox and anything that happens to it(besides the ring of death) is coming out of my pocket to have it fixed. I have my own little solution to this problem but I just wanted to see what others have delt with.

Cliffs: Xbox broke they say I have no warranty even though it's brand new.

i think your best bet would be trying to make the xbox get the red ring of death again, which would still be covered under your old warranty.

I've never heard anything about xboxen having issues with network cards...what are they quoting you for cost to repair?

That was my plan but right now when I try to towel it (get it nice and hot) it is turning off. I'm hoping they didn't fix it so you cannot towel it any more.

I didn't even ask for a quote since this is something they should be fixing IMO, I read online a bit that they can fail or get zapped. Being used on a 100ft cable can make fail overtime I believe I read.

Any other ideas? Maybe try to heat it up then throw it in the freezer?

its like $100 to have them fix it and you have to pay for the shipping. They dont even send you the coffin anymore. You have to provide packaging as well! They got burned on their old problem and have tightened up on the new boxes to stop losing the close to Billion dollars they took a hit on the old chip boxes. The customer always takes the hit. Always!

            PS3 > Xbox

My PS2 broke after I had it for like 3 years. I sent it to SD to have Sony fix it... they didnt charge me shit and sent me some free sony underground subscription. Shoulda went and got the PS3 like the big boys =\

I got the red ring earlier this year and was surprised/pleased that Microsoft fixed it for free. It didn't even take that long.

But then I noticed something... they didn't send me "my" XBox.

The one I got back had some light scratches and a little bit of dirt smudged on the white case. I keep my stuff absolutely spotless in a small AV cabinet and I was certain this wasn't my machine. I got one in the insane days immediately after launch and my manufacture date had to have been pretty old... this one was manufactured over a year after launch.

When I went back to check on the status of my repair, my account had no devices registered. It seems they took mine in and gave me a fixed one off the shelf. That explains the quick turnaround and the now missing original device registration. This also explains the multiple warnings to keep my hard drive and the complete mismatch of the NIC address in my MAC filters for the home network. I am mildly ticked, but the one I've got is clean now and working fine.

If this one breaks, I'm going to treat it as if it had the full warranty from the now younger manufactured date. Any grief from Microsoft and I'll ask them to show me where I had an older machine. And when they do, they can explain why they didn't fix "my" XBox and sent me someone else's that is now broken.

In this case, I'd do much the same thing. Register it and report a red ring of death and hope for a third machine with a good NIC.

the towel trick is used as a temporary FIX to the RRoD...it doesnt give you the RRoD.
