well, on a lighter note. That video was nothing short of spectacular. I have dubious amounts of respect to the drivers that participate in this sport. I give even more respect to the individuals that conduct such insane moves in an E30. I had a D1 driver drift an E30 and he said, and I quote,"this car is really hard to drift. And the amount of angle it is capable of achieving is amazing." Who said this you ask?? The one and only Taka Aono. Now this is why I give guys like Erick Mahle and E-Rich so much credit in what they do.

Once again, great video Dan. Very impressive.

                whose E30 did Taka drive?

what he probably didn't know was that the E30 was probably setup improperly. I guarantee you any of the guys who come out to the drift events can drive my car like a pro.

I had Yoshioka drive my car and he said he loved it, and that is it a fun, balanced car to drift.

There is great thrill to be had when two or three vehicles are mere inches away from each other trying to mimic the lead vehicle's line without hitting the vehicle.

It is quite a challenge adjusting your car's position in the line while sliding too.

Imagine someone telling you "okay, this guy has more power and grip than your car, so you're going to need to be about no more than 6 inches from this guy's bumper when you enter the first turn at 90mph, while maintaining a slide. Then around the transition, you should be able to see the sweat dripping down his cheek because your fender should practically be in his door." etc. etc.

I am not someone that easily professes a liking to drifting, but its starting to pull stings when it comes to a more professional and dramatic level.

I've been reading old magazines and books that describe the rally scene as it is resembling the drift scene. Though drifting still lacks a sole point, the rally drew hordes of spectators for the same reasons. Because it looked cool. Ultimately, Audi pissed the masses off. It was the IDEAL rally car that made the sport boring. One could argue because it was the Quatro was top dog and defeated all, or because it took the fun out of rally. Either way, the masses came, standing in cold rain for hours on end to be at the front of the lines to see a car go sideways into a turn, like 40 feet before the corner. And thats it. To see a driver hold a line in what would appear to be the most impossible of automotive abilities, for obtaining the champion place in competition, 1st in time.
Drifting, by definition, puts a car into competition against competitors, for style of a sideways drift. Nothing more (actually much more, but simply so.) Which is very hard for many to grasp as to this being a REAL automotive sport.

Let me step back a moment to rally. Thousands of people drawn to events which had vehicles going sideways INTO corners for the greatest amount of traction, keeping RPM'S at optimal levels, and to obtain the fastest possible time on a certain type of terrain, with a certain type of car. In order to make the fastest time, it is necessary to obtain such angles around corners. Drifting on the other hand must retain a description of show.
By no means can the drift run ever be based on fastest time alone. You can take the performance of a car to a certain level, hang the tail out and be criticized on various levels to obtain a score derived by judges?! I know there is a proper outcome to the ideal definition of drifting, but i have yet to see it. EVER. This video is the closest as I have come to seeing that the culture understands its own definition.

If you would like to further define Drifting, please do. Because everything that i have seen thus far, has sucked ass and has not proven it's self for what it should be.

How come your buddy didn't capture anything from Saturday? All the fun is in the tandem battles, qualifying runs are basically just glorified drift days.

I do have to confess, the video is very well produced to my liking.

Who's your friend's drifter buddy? Does he have anymore footage of my friend in his pink Driftspeed S14?

4:58 - 5:08 was awesome, it was so clear, you could tell exactly when Orido was shifting, when he was letting off, when he was braking, when he was e-braking, and then shifting back up to exit the large bank.

It's too bad about the GS, it has massive power, and he has the talent to pull it off. But the thing is just so heavy, he has to go so slow through the turns to maneuver the damn thing. He was averaging 65mph when everyone else was averaging 75mph.

                      loved the video

Being able to drift your car should be a tool in the trunk of every RWD drivers skills. It's lots of fun, very exciting, regardless whether you do it professionally or not.

I think the only problem with drifting, is that too many morons watch a really awesome video, and then throw themselves onto street curbs. Those people are not drifters, they are idiots. They deserve to be treated as such, too.

Taka drove Jerry's car. I mean its not set up amazingly or anything but he has 25mm front sway, and 550f 650r coils. Its set up well enough to get a good feel as to what E30s are all about.

Taka said he really liked driving his car. Once he got a few runs, he was hooked. Hiro was talking to me at an event asking me all kinds of questions about E30s. He seemed really interested in the body and the power plant. He noticed how many E30s were attending and couldn't help but ask questions.

When did Hiro drive your car???

It was really cool talking with the guys that live for this sport because they are so broad in their spectrum of which car could be drifted. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them picked up an E30. Probably wouldn't keep the M20 but oh well. Haha.

Hiro Sumida never drove my car

both Yoshioka and Okamura have driven my car, Okamura before my coilovers, and Yoshioka after. Yoshioka was hooked on my car too, he took it out for five runs!

The guy I went to film for, Henry - The driver of the Federal car, didn't qualify for Saturday.. and I had other priorities to attend to that day :/ So I couldn't film anymore, unfortunately.

But I will definitely make an effort to make it out to more events. Thanks for the comps man !
