The comment of assassination was sarcasm and even said in a post. As far as guns go, its one of the only things that will keep the government from controlling its people to the extent of some other countries. Obama has voted against every gun right he has possibly had the chance to do so. Chicago has the toughest gun laws but is the number 1 murder capital of the US! Go figure. I said it was one of three reasons that I am so anti Obama. And to me its a big one.

Vedubin, usually I agree with your views on politics but you've kinda started throwing pretty out-there accusations of Obama. And particularly, the assassination thing was a bit over the edge. Again, I tend to agree with your views of Obama but there's better evidence of it than this.

And the electoral college was initially put in place to protect the smaller, less popular states from being overrun in votes by larger states. And also, the electoral college was supposed to elect who they saw fit as being best for the country, as many founding fathers did not think the average American possessed enough wisdom to select who ran the country. It did an excellent job in one respect, and a terrible job in another. Remember, the Federal government was originally supposed to be an organization of the states, with the states holding the majority of the power over how they were governed.

You have to remember why there is an electoral college. If there wasn't the politics would only focus in huge cities (massively liberal) to win the popular vote. The electoral process is there for a reason, and a damn good one at that.
