    so, who on here hunts?

i went deer hunting for the day on Wednesday (which i haven't done for about 8 years), and dam it was nice!

unfortunately for me (but fortunately for the deer) i didn't see any whitetails and only 2 does and 2 fauns (which were not in season yet and i didn't have tags for does anyways) it was too late in the season and even though it was the middle of the week, they were no where to be found. we did find some wild apples (we picked some and left some for the elk we saw earlier in the day in the same meadow) i did get a coyote though!

i was just nice to go up north and do some hunting!

anyone else feel the same way?

BTW, i eat, freeze, or give away the meat from what i hunt, so for the anti hunters i use what i kill.

Just ground squirrels and we don't even pick them up, on a good day I'll shoot well over 100.

I wouldn't suspect you see much deer yet, you need some cold to drive them out of the mountains and we haven't got any yet.

I don't hunt but I have a few guns (shhhh don't tell Obama). Actually I shouldn't probably talk about owning guns in case Obama wins and wants to take them away:

      - Benelli Nova 12 gauge w/ Recoil Reducer in stock
      - Bushmaster AR15 Carbine
      - Browning BDA .380
      - Walther P99 .40
      - Walther P22 .22
      - Moisen Nagant Rifle 7.62x54 (uncle brought back from Vietnam and gave to me)
      - Glock 22? .40 (sold)
      - Ruger rife .22 (sold)
      - Ruger 9mm (sold)

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

actually whitetail end this weekend, mule deer starts next week.

we saw elk sign EVERYWHERE, i am going to put in for elk there this year AREA 26.

i was talking to one of the few hunters we saw on the road and he said that an 11 y/o girl got a 126 on the first day of the youth hunt (that is the first day after the archery hunt) lucky bitch!

you can varmint hunt all year long here as long as you have a hunting licence. (you do need a mountain lion/cougar, and bobcat tag though). the varmint club that my dad belongs to pays for the pelts too. ($75 for the coyote that i shot!)

it is MUCH easier to get a kill with "split tail" then to kill a whitetail

I also hunt. Our deer season is in bow season ATM. Black powder starts this weekend. Our white tail does not start till the end of December. But I just went rabbit hunting for the first time. It produced and I ate it. Not that bad but a lot of work for what little meat you get out of it. I am so waiting for Deer season!

yea, i leave the rabbits for the coyotes, too much work for the amount of food you get and i don't like the taste of rabbit. I'd much rather shoot the coyotes that come to eat the rabbit leave for them.

the coyotes and cougars are really taking a toll on the deer population in AZ, by killing off the fauns. they have been steadily in decline for the last 15 years.

i hunt, but not a lot. i really enjoy pheasant hunting. if you get a big group and a couple of good dogs, you can spend a whole day stalking and flushing birds.
