27 nations in Europe just barely have an economy larger than just the US... with 66% more people.
Europe is quite different than the US. You can leave your kid in a stroller outside a cafe in Denmark and not worry about it. Adding socialist policies would increase the free rider problems of this nation.
Freer economies are shown to have greater growth, and in these days, more nations are moving towards that in order to improve. Look at how China is evolving.
Just because some nations want to remove incentives doesn't mean it is the right thing to do in America, the land of liberty.
It's all over

Guest repliedI don't doubt for a second that Socialism hasn't succeeded. In fact it has quite obviously failed in every country in which there has been a revolution. I disagree with Marx when he speaks of Socialism coming about because of revolution. I think it will be a more gradual and slow transition by way of economic and social policy changes that span decades and possibly even centuries. Europe is a good example. Many countries have been adopting Socialist policies for some time now and they are just fine. Europe, as a whole, has a larger economy than the US and has only been feeling the heat because of our financial troubles. Socialism is not a bad thing.
Edit: True Socialism has never been implemented.Last edited by Guest; 11-06-2008, 07:05 PM.Leave a comment:

I work with people and their 401k's all day - you're no the only person who is disconcerned about all of this.the 401k thing is the biggest issue to me. I doubt most of revvers here care, because few of you actually have a retirement account. But I'm a little pissed that I finally started to get somewhere, and now the goverment wants to fuck me over.
