All the dad's....Christmas plans/rituals. A MUCH lighter side.

I pretty excited about Christmas this year. My two boys are 4 and 6 so they are right in the peak santa clause time.....

On my list this year is an actual sawing down of our tree. There is a place that has hay rides and hot chocolate, and you can browse freely and cut down your tree....Sounds like a neat place so I intend to check it out.

I want to have a date night with the wife, and see the nutcracker.....Or some other christmas program.....Then to a park she went to when she was growing up in downtown Kzoo. fully decorated w/lights at night....Did this one before and got a billion brownie points.:D

There are two families that I'm related to actually. They would never take money from me so I'm going to drop $100 each in their mailbox-annonymously. I'd leave more but times are tough.:(

I wanted to work the shelter kitchen in Grand Rapids with the wife. I've never done this before so don't know if I'd feel like I helped or just feel like it was a lost cause.

There is also a relatively local place that has christmas themed train rides, a decorated steam engine, a 'real' santa, and a reindeer.....That's definately on the list as my son LOVES trains.

That's about all I have now.....I'm really looking forward to this christmas.

Edit: This topic HAS to lighten the mood.

My son will be just under two at Christmas. We have the different family get togethers on xmas eve/xmas day, so that sort of ties up those 2 days. I'm taking 2 weeks off during xmas so we'll probably go to the snow a couple of times, cut down our own tree, head to the coast, and ride the holiday train here if i can find tickets. My wife really wants this to become a tradition we do every year since we are members of the California state railroad museum. I love christmas.

This post makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. A few people in my town have already put their lights up! My baby turns one Dec 11th so she's not all that aware about x-mas and all, but she LOVES the lights so we're going to go all out for her. Plus we taught her how to open and tear at presents so that will be fun

I like happy posts!!!! :) This place seems to get pretty damn negative.

Yeah the little ones always get overly spoiled.....

I've been bad about buying things that are way out of his age range.

I need to get a Toys R US catalog for the boys to look at so we can 'preview' what they want from santa clause.

And speaking of which my wife and I talked about it and we will always all the way till they are old enough to move on with their own lives defend the existence of santa clause. It's just when you are older it's no longer a person but rather an idea or state of mind...

We've already tried teaching them that christmas is not just getting but giving to.
But they are little. They want TOYS.

I think dads like to buy stuff they secretly want or wished they had when they were little. lol My husband bought our 2 WEEK old baby girl last year a train set. A big huge train set that puffs real smoke and lights up! lol! :)

I would have preferred diapers but what can you do. lol He had fun playing with the train.

Downtown K-Zoo is impressive, but heading out to Battle Creek is even more to see the lights there. They really do it up. But, even so, downtown K-Zoo is a nice time around Christmas.

Yeah the festival of lights is even cooler....The park in Kzoo was one her dad took her to when she was little.

I think we may take the little ones to BC, and to the whitecaps ball park in Comstock Park. Her parents live about 3 minutes away and they have a HUGE light display.

My dad always took me out to cut a Christmas tree, I have very fond memories of hiking with him and my mom to find the perfect tree.

                              Me...

                              4 Kids: 10, 9, 2 and 9 months.

                              Christmas Day:

                              1st...

I am going to extort money from their grandparents in order to get each one of them the "one thing they really wanted" for Christmas.

                              2nd...

Then I will probably take them with me to a "soup kitchen" for homeless families I volunteer at so they can see that even though life is difficult, they are indeed rather fortunate.

                              And finally 3rd

We will make the rounds (grandparents, aunts, uncles ad nauseum).
